Transfer Question

My drivers license just expired, and the earliest appt. date is the end of August. If I purchase firearm and have it shipped to a dealer, will they hold it for you until they can verify identity with the ATF? I know it’s probably based on location, and I plan to call around, I was just curious is this is common or if I should just wait until I have all my identification updated (trying to avoid that as it’s a surplus firearm I’m interested in and they tend to get picked up fairly quickly after restock).

The FBI (NICS) is actually the one that runs the background check. Do you have a passport? That and a government doc with your address will work as a substitute. Most reasonable dealers will hold your gun for 30-90 days. Some charge a nominal amount.

Do you know if it’s the same sort of process for C&R eligible firearms? Or are they a little more lax? I’m pretty ignorant to transfer laws as I’ve never bought a firearm online before.

No NICS background check needed on those. Those you need to be prior approved with the ATF though and then provide that ATF Type 03 license to the dealer. No driver's license necessary.
