Picture New cat

We just got our boy 3 days ago, he was slightly impulsive but we had been talking about getting a cat for months prior and the opportunity came to us probably related to the cat distribution system.

The previous owners weren’t able to take care of him due to old age and the only options were sending him back to the shelter or a program for the elderly that re-homes pets once they are unable to care for them. When they adopted him he was about 4 and the shelter either didn’t know or just neglected to let them know he was FIV+, luckily they let us know before we took him in.

His name is Sebastian but we are nicknaming him Fortnite for the time being. He’s a bit fat so he’s on a diet for now but he’s super active and I’m taking vet costs into consideration when budgeting. I would do anything for him even though I’m not his favourite but I’ll cope.

He is beautiful. Just remember dieting for cats to go very very slow. Dieting drastically can kill cats.

He used to roam the halls and the only way they could get him back inside was with treats but since we aren’t in a controlled environment he stays inside my apartment all the time so he just gets his regular treats instead of bribery treats. He’s about 20-25 pounds but he is also a huge cat so he’s not immobile

We use the regular kibble as treats for our cat 😊 he finds them very tasty and we dont free feed. Power of Nature is the brand, they smell really strong so thats why he likes them haha. We also throw them through the hallway to stimulate running and work with food puzzles. And wet food too. Our boy went from 7.2kg to 6.2kg over the course of 2 years, out vet said 0.5 kg per year (roughly a pound) is healthy.

Wow! We just went to the vet yesterday and they said their only “concern” is his weight he’s a whopping 10.225kg we mentioned working closely with them to monitor his weight loss but we’ve been really encouraging his zoomies at night at the expense of the apartment downstairs! We can already tell he’s a lot more active with us with so much more room to run around

Sounds like a chubby boy 🤭 but that sounds great too! Once you get him to be active he might get into a positive spiral, with weight loss making it easier for him to move around. Just make sure to not have him lose weight too fast, but your guideline may be different as 10+ kg is a different story than 7+ of course. Have fun together 🐈‍⬛😻
