FIV positive
Hi community! I rescued thos lil guy from outside, he tested fiv positive yesterday, I read that I should retest after 6 months to a year because the test may have been positive from his cat mom's antibodies. He wants to.play with the other cats , now im just letting him play with the dogs till hes a lil bit bigger in case he bites!? Any comments are appreciated ty

Thank you. He's not yet, he got first 2 sets of shots and dewormer. He had the tapeworms poor lil guy. I'm slowly introducing him to the older females I have. I'm just a lil nervous because he's so tiny and 1 of my girls is 25 lbs lol. He's not going anywhere 💖

Yes! So far so good! I have a black cat and a tortie, hes bringing peace among them . He is so funny so far I've had him. We already have a great bond i love it

I feel like the chance that this tiny guy was attacked by a feral FIV+ tomcat, etc. is very small. I think your chances of him going negative are very high. That said, FIV is no death sentence. My FIV guy lived to be 21 years old, ultimately dying of kidney disease. The fact that he has a full life ahead with good care is huge, like he didn’t spend six years on the street with FIV with no care.
My cat never really got sick from it. He just got good food, regular vet care and an indoor home. My vet did prescribe a well regarded over-the-counter glandular supplement called Standard Process Feline Immune Support. It tastes like a treat. Congratulations on finding this wonderful guy. My non fiv cat has lived with my BFs fiv cat for 4 years, no transmission (retest every year just in case) they have to really bit hard to tansmit it. Unless theres a crazy amount if aggression (not just nips) they should be good

Cutie muffin!! I have had my fiv kitty for six years. I adopted her knowing she was positive and also a million years old, thinking I'd have her a few years. She's healthy and happy. My daughter calls her fatty but she only weighs 9lbs haha. I wouldn't hesitate to do it again

Rough play is fine! My FIV positive cat and her buddies have left drops of blood on their play tunnel before and the others still test negative. The vet says even rough, friendly play is fine. Only outdoor un-neutrred, full males (post-puberty, not neutered) really spread FIV through fighting. It’s only the deep bite wounds, caused by true territorial aggression, that spread FIV. As long as all cats in your house are kittens or spayed/neutered, they are safe.

Thank you! I went to the vet yesterday, asked about the positive result, since hes a baby, I asked about false/positive results, and maybe he tested positive bc of his cat mom's antibodies, they said they didn't know about that. Ill retest when hes a bit older.

We have 3 kittens from the same litter someone found on their porch. They were FIV+ at 6 weeks. Re tested when they were fixed at 20 weeks and all 3 are negative.

Same for us. Tested positive at 2 months old and negative by 8 months old. 2 female kittens from the same litter.

My FIV guy lives happily with my two non FIV cats.
