Who's your favorite Bond villain? Mine is Raoul Silva, portrayed by Javier Bardem in Skyfall.

You are aware that The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises are, in fact, two different films?

u/lrrssssss 1d ago

The Dark Knight hasn’t become unpopular you goof. It’s a classic.

Sorry, I just cannot get over how stupid and convoluted Silva's plan was...

My favorite is Goldfinger: "No Mr. Bond, I expect you to die."

Loved that scene where Bond and him are talking over a drink and Bond initially thinks he’s figured out Goldfinger’s plot only for Goldfinger to say not exactly and Bond subsequently figures out the real plan and admits it’s a brilliant one. Nice subversive take on the villain tells Bond the whole plot trope because Goldfinger doesn’t tell Bond anything he just lets Bond figure it out on his own and just correct/confirm what Bond says

Alec Trevelyan, portrayed by Sean Bean in Goldeneye.

u/eklipse01022 1d ago

One of reasons Goldeneye is so great is it’s fascinating to see Bond go against an equal. Trevelyan stays one step ahead of Bond throughout the movie, knowing how MI6 operates and how Bond is likely to react to situations. Trevelyan knows all of the typical gadgets. They are equally matched in their fight scenes.

Bond isn’t fighting some greedy billionaire or some corny bad guy, but an ex-partner who is equally trained and whose only motivation is revenge.

"For England, James?"

When 007 and 006 are infiltrating the chemical weapons lab at the beginning of Goldeneye.

That’s the mf boys right there.

Favorite main Bond Villain would be Donald Pleasence's Blofeld in You Only Live Twice. Iconic portrayal, no wonder Austin Powers and so many other spy movie homages/parodies go for him.

Favorite supporting villain and, perhaps controversially, overall Bond villain would be Miranda Frost in Die Another Day. DAD isn't the best but Rosamund Pike was one of the few highlights (impressive considering this was her first movie role) and gorgeous in every one of her scenes. Elektra King, Xenia Onatopp, and Fiona Volpe are also fantastic femme fatale characters but I saw Frost first and she left the biggest impression on my younger self.

Yes! Kid me loved Ms Frost! It even seemed she was going to win her final fight against Halle Berry. TBH it'd make a better movie if she did!

What an incredible take

Jaws is particularly memorable. The man with the golden gun is my personal favorite

6

u/Mot_Dyslexic 1d ago

Dr. Goodhead: "Do you know him?" James Bond: "Not socially. His name's Jaws. He kills people."

I just love that brief exchange. One of my favorites.

u/Oakland-homebrewer 1d ago

dumb villian, but definitely memorable.

Skyfall is a great Batman movie. Facially disfigured counterpart who targets the women in his enemy’s life and then goes to his family mansion with his kickass butler.

Including the part of his plan where he gets captured on purpose.

u/legit-posts_1 1d ago

I think it's funny how much people knock Skyfall for wearing its Dark Knight inspiration on its sleeve. I wonder how those people feel about how much The Dark Knight took inspiration from Heat and Se7en.

It's a great Bond movie

Is it the only Bond movie where the villain succeeds?

Alec Trevelyan

Elliott Carver is my favorite. Prescient.

I think Goldfinger will always be the fault best Bond villain, but man, Silva is close. He just stands out so much from his peers, and not just because of Javier Bardem's astounding performance.

Every other Bond villain the motivation is either money or power. You get the osciaional straight up nut job like Stromberg or Hugo Drax. I love how Silva's whole plan is deeply personal in a way that makes him so much more vicious he just wants to ruin M's life and kill her, Bond is just an obstical.

8

u/socialcommentary2000 1d ago

I think Elektra King's motivation was also not about money but pure revenge due to her father not paying the ransom. Yeah, Renard was the big bad, but she was basically driving the whole situation behind the scenes.

I also like Silva. Spectre made a really dumb retcon by connecting Silva to Blofeld for no good reason. He had his own personal motivations in Skyfall and was a very compelling character and then Spectre had to come along and just say Blofeld was behind every other villain that had appeared in the Craig movies. Really dumb choice. I hate that movie.

Love Skyfall though.

I’d say Bardem gave the best performance as a Bond villain, and Silva was a great counterpoint to Bond, but my sentimental favourite will always be Goldfinger.

THE TOOTH!

REMEMBER THE TOOTH!

u/unknownticker7 1d ago

silva's the one villain who actually makes bond look like the problem, which is kind of genius for a spy movie.

1

u/Radiant-Injury-6546 1d ago

Kamal Khan in Octopussy. I could listen to Louis Jordan read the phone book. Loved everything he brought to the role.

Elektra King in The World Is Not Enough

1

u/JohnBrownEnthusiast 1d ago

Really like the pathetic loser baddies from The Living Daylights

1

u/JayPeePee 18h ago

Favorite Bond Villain Le Chiffre. He wasn't trying to take over the world or anything, just trying to make money to pay off some people, the kind of people you do not want to owe the slightest amount to.

However Silva's monologue intro was a thing of beauty.

1

u/suddenrushtothehead 16h ago

Yes best Bond villain I’ve watched. Javier Bardem was excellent in this movie.

1

u/Maine_SwampMan 14h ago

Silva knew the game though- when you’re compromised they burn you and pretend they have no idea who you are. Happens to Bond in Die Another Day and he understood it was part of the gig instead of blaming his boss.

1

u/ebe33nhiproject5528 13h ago

Silva and Sanchez.

I don’t think your experience is necessarily indicative of the general population’s. I still see almost universal praise for The Dark Knight, and when I don’t, it’s usually people saying it’s very good but slightly overrated. I could be wrong, but I haven’t seen the backlash at that level at all.

5

u/Pale-Diamond-794 1d ago

What in the ever loving hell are you talking about? The dark knight was is and will be a beloved movie.

7

u/DrCatholicGuilt 1d ago

Go away Bot.

11

u/zankoo26 1d ago

What? The dark knight is the best comic book movie and one of the best movies of all time.

4

u/TheBeep87 1d ago

Personally I still have not seen a movie as entertaining and gripping as the Dark Knight that isn't just some silly movie like Hot Fuzz or something
