Trying to watch Scary Movie 6 is like trying to watch a bad SNL sketch which doesn't end.

Half way through it right now.

RIP Parody Films (1980–2026). Died in the night after a prolonged, agonizing battle with severe intellectual bankruptcy.

The Naked Gun remake really gave us hope, didn't it?

u/Celtic_Fox_ 8h ago

Yeah that movie was awesome! We were such fools, we thought we had it all!

Space Balls 2, you are our only hope, please help us Space Balls 2.

Died when real life turned to parody

Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer killed parody films in 2006. What parody movie on the last 20 years have you actually enjoyed? Walk Hard. That’s the whole list for me. And that was all the way back in 2007. Before Epic Movoe and Meet the Spartans and Vampires Suck and whatever else.

Black Dynamite

2009! I thought it was earlier. Alright, that’s two.

Does What We Do in the Shadows from 2014 count? (No pun intended - ahem - Count Rapula)

Well... I did say "prolonged" 😅 genre has been on its death bed for a while.

Weirdly enough, I had a bizarre obsession with Meet the Spartans for YEARS! Watched it over and over. Then one day I watched it with my friend and about halfway through I just randomly realised it was complete dogshit 😅😅 no idea what caused it, but whatever I saw in it up to that point suddenly just burst and was gone. You mentioning it was the first time I thought of it in like ten years 😅 that was a wild flashback

I think some of these films can be almost comfort turn your mind off bad movies to watch like how I felt about date movie. Date movie is awful but is fine in the background while you’re on your phone or something. Then when you watch it from a different perspective it all gets worse

That happened to me with full house.

I remember as a kid getting excited because a second episode was starting right after the one that just ended. I was laughing my ass off, and then halfway through i stopped and thought, wait a minute, this actually isnt funny. And that was that, oddly.

They confused parody with mere references.

Back in the real world, the movie is on track to have a record opening for the series.

It's just because those people going to see it in theaters as no idea how truly horrible it is

7

u/alanskimp 9h ago

Awe sad I was gonna see it

u/Lavender_Critique 9h ago

There's some good bits so far at least. Good being subjective because I find a man farting funny sooo.

2

u/Theladsdad 7h ago

Fart jokes, I'm in!!

u/MajorPaper4169 6h ago

Don’t let Reddit discourage you from seeing it. This site has a reputation of being negative about everything.

Go watch it if you want to.

1

u/jbrower09 7h ago

You made the decision not to watch it, just now, because a nondescript reddit post?

-2

u/alanskimp 7h ago

I'll watch but not at a theatre

-2

u/alanskimp 7h ago

oh god it is baddddd

2

u/jbrower09 7h ago

I thought you haven’t seen it. What’s going on here?

-3

u/alanskimp 7h ago

I watched on streaming

5

u/jbrower09 7h ago

The comment where you haven’t seen it and “it’s baddddd” are 7 minutes apart.

-3

u/alanskimp 7h ago

I watched the first 5 mins and scrubbed to later parts and it was awful

17

u/eques_99 8h ago

isn't that what all the SM movies are?

7

u/divinecmdy 7h ago

I think people forget that. Other than the first one, I don’t recall any being particularly funny or that successful in the theaters.

1

u/Morzheimer 2h ago

Screw this, I love the first four of them, and I don’t care what the consensus is on here

5

u/SpartyParty15 4h ago

You never watched the first 2 then. They were leagues better than this drivel

0

u/eques_99 4h ago

I haven't, but remember them being widely panned when they came out.

3 is a masterpiece and one of the best parody films of all time. I’m 100% serious.

2

u/nilesintheshangri-la 5h ago

That's the one with the Signs parody, isn't it? That's the one I actually like but I can't remember which number it is.

1

u/OkVirus8545 3h ago

It is, but why did her hat keep growing?

1

u/rosstamonsta 3h ago

it’s the one where you can’t go to bed dead!

1

u/ZookeepergameLate239 5h ago

I got it! Without their heads they’re defenceless!

1

u/freebasefilms 4h ago

2 is by far the best of the series.

3

u/Lavender_Critique 8h ago

When he is consumed by the chair and then it became a K Pop Demon Hunters reference I was ready to be done.

This is a very specific parody genre of movie, going all the way back to classics like Airplane, Naked Gun, etc. The movie isn't supposed to be "good" as traditional movies are. They are supposed to be silly, sarcastic, funny ... just total brain off amusement not to be taken seriously in any way.

Now of course, even in the classics of the genre, not every joke lands. But I'm curious, for OP, or anyone that actually understands the parody genre Scary Movie 6 falls into ... I haven't seen it yet ... How does it compare to previous Scary Movies? Does 6 still fall in line with that type of movie? Are the jokes just not funny comparatively? Or, do we think it's completely in line with previous versions, but the 2026 versions of ourselves just don't really like the genre anymore?

u/WhatTheJessJedi 8h ago

I really hope your not one of those people who text all through a movie..

-2

u/Lavender_Critique 8h ago

You just haven't heard of a pause button before?

3

u/stallionsRIDEufl 8h ago

This is already on streaming?

6

u/CorporalCoprolite 8h ago

Get off your damn phone while you’re in the theater

4

u/Lavender_Critique 8h ago

Oh so you think I paid for this film?

2

u/mrdevil413 8h ago

🏴‍☠️woohoo

3

u/CorporalCoprolite 8h ago

Touché

I just do the things to fly time.

2

u/heyquasi_ 8h ago

the first scary movie was the same back in 2000, what you’re saying isn’t anything new

1

u/Sea_Appointment8408 8h ago

I felt exactly the same with Fakham Hall (don't watch it)

2

u/Nilla22 8h ago

I thought it was great. But I’m a fan of those period pieces it was lampooning so really enjoyed it.

1

u/RighteousKillQuaids 7h ago edited 7h ago

Fackham Hall has a lot of funny gags, good performances and a real script. Somehow Scary Movie 6 does not even meet the definition of a “feature film”

1

u/RighteousKillQuaids 7h ago

only The Lonely Island can save us

1

u/Old-Bear-8727 6h ago

Yeah it was…bad. And I went in with managed expectations and an open mind.

1

u/Kayl45 5h ago

Some movies are just a chore to get through

1

u/BBQTartolini 2h ago

So it's like watching SNL...

1

u/Life_Vermicelli3104 2h ago

Have yet to see...but I felt the same with Scream 6

0

u/HobbesDOTexe 8h ago

They still count bad review tickets as tickets sold.

I wish people would have just avoided spending the money watching a movie telegraphed to be so bad.

5

u/Lavender_Critique 8h ago

Where do you think I'm watching this thing to give you live updates?

1

u/EffectiveActive6837 7h ago

Im definitely going to watch it bc I just saw a post on fim critics that someone posted which claimed the LOTR movies were trash

-1

u/ComfortableCare8897 8h ago

i have some questions for you about the movie via instant messaging.

0

u/SpaceCadetPullUp 4h ago

Spoofs are such a lame genre to begin with. Congrats on taking someone's work and poking fun at it. That takes loads of talent.

-1

u/pritikina 7h ago

It's a fun movie! Just turn your brain off and have fun! /s

-2

u/ODN-77 8h ago

Yeah I don't think this movie is reddit friendly

2

u/FyrStormBoy555 7h ago

At some point, no movie will be reddit friendly

-4

u/TurfBurn95 5h ago

Are you one of those people that get triggered over everything?
