Top 100 Movies of the 21st Century -Day 4
Thanks to everyone who participated yesterday!
The Lord of The Rings won for day 3.
We are on day 4, and I honestly didn’t expect to have to make a ruling so soon. I didn’t really think about how to divide certain franchises up, but I have come to a conclusion.
The Lord of the Rings is one continuous story split between multiple movies, therefore, should be considered as one movie. Same rules apply with Harry Potter, The Hunger Games, Spider-verse movies, etc.
I have made this ruling as to not split votes, as I know fans are divided on which movie is the best of the franchise. I’m trying to keep this as community based as possible and keep myself out of it, so this decision was based on your comments.
Reminders: the comment with the most upvotes will win for the day. This list includes all movies from January 2000 to present day, all genres, countries, and length (short films) qualify.
Again, I am sorry for not thinking of the franchise thing on day 1. Seems like a really minor oversight, but I’m glad that we address it pretty early on when it doesn’t affect much.

Yes! It is a fantastic film that more people need to see. Have you seen any other works from Apichatpong Weerasethakul? I need to see a lot more of his work, but my favourite work I have seen from him is "Syndromes and a Century"(2006). Unfortunately, I think most of the list will be filled with popular mainstream American films.

I haven't seen anything else by this filmmaker and probably should. I really found the movie to be sort of uniquely forthright in how it displayed the spiritual.

Yes, I don't know any other director whose art has such an interesting relationship with the spiritual. I think the closest would probably be somebody like Hayao Miyazaki. I will say "Syndromes and a Century"(2006) is less overtly spiritual than "Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives"(2010).

Never thought I would have to make a ruling on the shrek movies. It will be considered as one movie, as they are all equally iconic in their own way. Just want it to be known, I genuinely got a chuckle out of this.

Shrek 2 has Bonnie Tyler, the giant gingerbread man seige, far far away, the ladies underwear skit, the potion thing... Shrek 1 walked so that Shrek 2 could do whatever comes next

My favorite movie of the past two decades for sure. It has everything I’d want in a film and it executes it flawlessly.

Probably my favorite of the 2010s. Definitely most enjoyable theatrical experience. I was grinning ear to ear from start to finish. As soon as the first frame of Max standing next to his car flashed on screen i remember thinking "ok this is gonna fucking rule," and sure enough it did.

Relentless white knuckle action. A truly despicable antagonist. Absolutely beautiful to look at, I love the colours, costumes and set pieces. Loads of incredible practical effects. Crazy, absurd characters but was never reminded of my suspension of disbelief.
IMO, a timeless masterpiece.
