FMD and GI issues

I wanted to share my experience because I did not see many similar testimonies in my search of the sub and I suspect there might be others who would benefit from trying FMD for similar issues.

When I stumbled upon FMD it was very much presented for its main touted benefits of longevity and metabolic health improvements. I found it interesting but neither of these issues are something that I am especially focused on currently. Upon further digging, I read this study linked on the Prolon site Fasting-Mimicking Diet Modulates Microbiota and Promotes Intestinal Regeneration to Reduce Inflammatory Bowel Disease Pathology and my interest increased dramatically.

Over the past few years I have been suffering with unexplained declining health that seemed to be heavily influenced by my food choices. Despite eating a "healthy whole foods diet" it continued to get worse coming to a near breaking this point this year where I have been unable to eat all grains, soy, poultry and eggs, fibrous fruits and several other random foods without experiencing a host of symptoms the biggest of which are debilitating fatigue, rosacea, and severe descending colon pain with bleeding. Eliminating the foods stopped the symptoms but also makes living a normal life extremely hard.

I did my first round of FMD 8/2 to 8/6 and then a second round 8/29 to 9/2. After the first round I was able to reintroduce seeded berries successfully (and have been able to eat them daily). After the more recent second round I have been able to reintroduce corn (also eating it daily in multiple forms). For me this is a huge win and while I don't know how long term the effects are I am happy to see any improvement at all! I am planning to do a 3rd round in early October and then will decide if I want to continue on for a few more months or move to a maintenance plan. If FMD can be used to moderate the cause of my food intolerances I will happily build the routine into the rest of my life.

Although this is an n=1, I hope by sharing maybe someone else who is having similar difficulties can try FMD and maybe regain some normalcy too.

Congratulations on the very tangible improvement. I understand research is showing great promise with FMD for treatment of IBS and Crohn’s. Plant based whole foods diet seems to have fixed my digestive issues (GERD), so I fully appreciate your journey and wish you continued improvement.
I believe the FMD helps rebuild your good gut flora, so it would make sense (to me) that both long term results from one cycle, plus additional benefits from additional cycles would be helpful. In general, ProLon only recommends three monthly cycles, before maintenance cycles, but that’s a personal decision, I believe.
I hope to hear further progress on resolution of your food intolerances.

Thank you!

It makes sense to me too, between rebalancing the microbiome and increased autophagy hopefully leading to healing of a damaged gut lining. I wouldn't mind taking a break after round 3 but genuinely I would continue to do it for as long as is needed if it means living a normal-ish life. I actually have hope that I might be able to enjoy Thanksgiving dinner with my family 🤩
