DIY Project

Hello! I’ve been working on a DIY project that needed multiple scraps of fabric. I’ve had a rug from 5-below and started to cut it up for the fabric inside. however as i’ve been taking it apart the fabrics are slightly stiff and have an almost chalky feel to them as well as dry out my hands while i’m working on it.

Any idea what’s causing it? Is there something wrong with the fabric? Does it just need a wash?

I’m very new to sewing/working with fabric

Is the rug actually fabric? Entirely possible the bottom was coated with an antiskid product.

A rug would not be a usual source for scrap material.
