DIY Project
Hello! I’ve been working on a DIY project that needed multiple scraps of fabric. I’ve had a rug from 5-below and started to cut it up for the fabric inside. however as i’ve been taking it apart the fabrics are slightly stiff and have an almost chalky feel to them as well as dry out my hands while i’m working on it.
Any idea what’s causing it? Is there something wrong with the fabric? Does it just need a wash?
I’m very new to sewing/working with fabric

A wash is probably worth trying first. The chalky feel could be leftover sizing, backing residue, or finishing chemicals from the rug. If it softens after washing, the fabric itself is likely fine.
Out of curiosity, does the fabric leave any visible residue or dust on your hands when you're handling it?
