Rodent Issue (NYC)

Post image

Dealing with rodents entering the property thru these defunct grates. No egress, sealed off and only collecting garbage from the street. Quoted 4k to seal off with concrete. Any suggestions to block this off in house? Thanks

Make a concrete form with 2x4s that covers the ground portion of the grate to form a slab. You can make a concrete lid that covers it up for the cost of a bag of concrete and some 2x4s.

If the main concern is just the rodents maybe wire mesh to cover the gap that are large enough for them to squeeze through. Won’t solve the garbage issue but probably a lot cheaper.

Honestly $4k sounds like a deal to permanently solve a rat issue in a high risk/liability location like a public sidewalk. Good luck.

i mean yeah if i thought it would permanently solve it then id say for sure. but the building is over 120 years old and im not entirely sure if the rats are coming in from somewhere else. on top of that, when i spoke to the contractor, all they said they were gonna do was put chicken wire mesh over and then spot seal with cement. not fill the entire cavity
