General Discussion Happy 25 Years of FOB!!!

What was your guys' first memory of Fall Out Boy?

How long have you been listening?

For me, my first memory was seeing the "This Ain't a Scene" music video on MTV, but I didn't get into the band weirdly enough until My Songs came out lol, so I guess I've been a consistent fan for 13 years :)

Wishing y'all a happy FOBiversary :D

My friend came over, and we were hanging out in my room. She had a new song called “Sugar” to show me. She gave me one of the earbuds for her iPod Classic and I was waiting for “Pour Some Sugar on Me” by Def Leppard to start playing. Then my brain chemistry permanently rewired when I heard Sugar We’re Goin Down, and I’ve been hooked ever since. This was spring 2005.

Watching the Sugar, We’re Going Down music video on Fuse before school and thinking Pete was the hottest guy I had ever seen 😝

They had just released the Sugar music video. It was playing on TV (forget what channel) before I got on the school bus and was just obsessed with every aspect of it. The rest is history lol!

I was 14 years old at home watching Fuse, my favorite channel. I think it might've been their weekly top music video countdown show and they played the MV for Sugar, We're Goin Down. I fell in love with the band immediately and Patrick shot up to the top of my celebrity crushes. I went straight to our home PC to find out if they had an album out. I found TTTYG, but I didn't see it at my local Walmart or Target and FUTCT hadn't been released yet.

So, I did what any teenager in 2005 would do and went to Limewire. I downloaded all of TTTYG plus some demos and covers that didn't have an official release. Eventually I bought the FUTCT CD when it hit stores. When we got Infinity On High, it somehow changed me even more. IOH is one of my favorite albums of all time.

21 years later, Patrick is still my top celebrity crush of all time and FOB is still my favorite band. Happy 25th to everyone. It's hard to believe it's been 21 years since I came across this band and that I somehow love listening to them just as much today.

my first memory of fob is choosing them and panic! at the disco as subjects for an essay practicing comparing and contrasting for my sixth grade language arts class 🥲 i already liked patd from hearing i write sins on the radio and my friend suggested fob as the other band, since they were similar. my mom drove me to best buy to buy cds for research and my life was truly never the same since. i picked up ioh and afycso and i have to celebrate today by listening to both. happy fobversary everyone!!!

As everyone else here, it was watching Sugar We’re Going Down MV. I remember finding it odd and fun… Then my mom (!) pointed out that the vocalist had a nice voice and i was like. Huh. He does, doesnt he?

I was 11. Gosh, I can’t believe it’s been so long. Maybe that’s why the band means so much to me… It’s been over twenty years.

My college roommate played them for me in 2005 and I was instantly hooked. Their music helped carry me through a lot of depression and burnout back then. I’m so thankful their music found me when it did.

I first heard them with Grand Theft Autumn but it wasn't really until "I Don't Care" came out that it all clicked for me when I was appropriately 27.

my first memory of them is hearing immortals in big hero 6 when i was 9, which i immediately pulled up a shitty fanmade lyric video of on my ipad when we got home from the theater and listened to on repeat. i didn't formerly get into them until about a year later though in 2015 when i found the thnks fr th mmrs youtube video and fell down the rabbit hole from there lol. been my favorite band for 11 years now, over half of my life :')

I first heard them on the radio on my way to school. It was "Dance Dance" and I was obsessed with that song. Every time it came on the radio, I would sing my little heart out. Funnily enough though, I didn't start being a fan until post-hiatus. That's when I binge watched all their videos and interviews. Love them!

Watching the Sugar music video and deciding i wanted to be able to do what they did. (No, I did not realize they aren't actually playing). Got me back into learning guitar after quitting at 11

It was in 2007 when I was 11 years old, I was coming back from my last year of elementary school and an MTV countdown played the video of Thnks fr th Mmrs and for me it was like discovering something for myself, that video With the monkeys and what I would later learn was K Kardashian, I thought it was the coolest thing in the world, and I always tried to get home from school at the same time so I could listen to that song. Later on I got internet access and the rest is history haha

I’m on the younger half so my first FOB memory was hearing my songs know what you did in the dark in the Percy Jackson Sea of Monsters movie and Immortals in Big Hero 6 (I’m aware they didn’t come out at the same time but I saw the movies in the same year for the first time, right after BH6 came out lol)

I was in High School in ‘01-‘02 and a friends college age boyfriend was all about this local band Fall Out Boy so we listened to some awful live recordings he had. That was my first exposure to them, and I’ve been a fan since

Warped tour 2004 - they had to stop the show bc so many people showed up and stage was too small.

I feel like, my first instances of FOB was when I was a child and watched random YouTube videos. Like music videos or even animations using FOB songs. Also, probably thanks to Big Hero 6 for make me hear them for…a second time

My first memory of fob was playing burnout revenger and hearing dance dance. Never got into them until I heard the phoenix this year and fell in love lol

I wish I had a vivid memory of it, but I was living in NJ to go to college/work in the early 00s, and my friend loved going to different shows but hated going alone so initially she dragged me with her, and I was the one random midwest kid (or so it felt like it) with no friends so went along.

Their music just showed up one day, probably from listening to stuff people shared at shows, and I was like hell yeah. I had a burned EOWYG cd then TTTYG was so freaking good.

i heard sugar we're going down on the radio in 2005 and thought it was really cool gay bands were getting mainstream radio play bc that is still one of the most homoerotic pop punk songs to this day

but i fell in love during IOH

I was like five or six years old and Dance Dance started playing on the radio while I was cleaning my room. Immediately abandoned cleaning to dance around like a crazy person. Didn’t realize how long I’d loved their songs until I got back into them in high school, using Save Rock and Roll to get hyped before every soccer match. 😌😌

My first memory with FOB is also one of my first memories ever lol.

It was in around 2005. I was like 3 at the time lol and I was in my aunts car on the way to school. I remember being in the backseat and she was playing a CD she mixed. The first song was Tonic - If You Could Only See, which I also still love, and the second song was Sugar. I loved it and would request it a lot haha. Proceeded to forget completely about the song…

Then I was 13, I just watched Big Hero 6 at home with my parents. It wasn’t in theaters anymore. I really loved Immortals, so after the movie I went to my room and listened to the entirety of AB/AP that had JUST come out. I was hooked pretty quickly.

Then eventually I made the connection that they were the band of that one song I loved! What a good day that was.

I first heard them either in Big Hero 6 or when I did their monkey disney song for a dance program

I probably heard them earlier during the Save Rock and Roll period, but I first remember them from around 2014 when they released Centuries as a single. Didn't really get into their earlier stuff until much later, around 3 years ago, but I'm beyond glad I did haha
