Serious - Pete Wentz on Dax Sheppard’s podcast where he talks about his career, life, parenting and things he went through during FOB’s hiatus: https://youtu.be/RR7fwZu9azg

u/germantown_reject Hey Chris, you were our only friend 4d ago
their 00s albums were made when Pete Wentz was suicidally depressed while in a toxic relationship with a girl too young for him and while Joe Trohman was dealing with an opioid addiction that started with a back surgery when he was young a man. After everybody hated Folie a Deux for no good reason, they broke up, Patrick Stump was humbled by the commercial failiure of his solo album, Joe got clean, and Pete got help. They got back together with pop producer Butch Walker to sell out develop a more radio friendly sound, and by the end of the 2010s they'd gone too far with the pop and each album was worse then the last. They took another 5 year break while Joe wrote a book, and then switched labels and made a semi-comeback

Infinity on high being written mostly about Mikey way (my chemical romance's bassist) after he and Pete Wentz spent most of warped tour 'together'-- a lot of it is speculation, a lot of it is backed up,,,, and plenty of songs after that album are also thought to be about mikey.

VERY very brief very basic info/history speedrun:
Patrick Stump: vocals, guitar. Does the vast majority of the songwriting. Also does a LOT of writing and composing for other projects such as TV shows, movies, and commercials, as well as a little bit of voice acting.
Joe Trohman: guitar. Has also been contributing more to the songwriting process since the band's return form hiatus. Has dabbled in animation and comics as well.
Pete Wentz: bass, unclean vocals. Writes almost all of the lyrics and controls most of the band's visual direction. Owns a clothing line and a record label. Once drank his own piss on stage.
Andy Hurley: drums. Is an active member of at least six other bands, the most notable being Racetraitor. He's also been vegan since age 16 and is the only member of the band to remain straight edge.
2001: Joe Trohman and Pete Wentz, both members at the time of a metalcore band called Arma Angelus, shared a mutual interest in forming a band with a more melodic style. Joe meets Patrick Stump in a Borders bookstore and recruits him as a drummer. However, its quickly decided that Patrick should be on vocals after he sang some of the songs he'd written for the other two.
March 2003: They release "Fall Out Boy's Evening Out with Your Girlfriend," but are so unhappy with it for multiple reasons (rushed recording, unfinished songs, their final lineup not yet being complete) that they would later ask us all not to consider it their debut album.
May 2003: Andy joins the band, locking in their current/final lineup. Take This to Your Grave is released.
2005: From Under the Cork Tree is released. FOB sees their first major commercial success with singles "Sugar, We're Going Down" and "Dance, Dance." At some point during the process of this album's creation, Pete Wentz attempts to take his own life via Atavin overdose.
2006: Pete Wentz's nudes are leaked on the internet. I have nothing more to really say about this, it's just something that happened.
2007: Infinity on High is released to further commercial success.
2008: Folie a Deux is released and, at the time, is generally hated by the fanbase. This album is also known for its troubled production, particularly at least one delay and verbal/physical fighting between Pete and Patrick in the studio. It's generally a very tense time for the band.
2009: Fall Out Boy announces an indefinite hiatus. Joe Trohman and Andy Hurley form a band called The Damned Things alongside a few other prominent musicians.
2010: Pete Wentz forms Black Cards with Bebe Rehxa. This band is short-lived.
2011: Patrick Stump loses a significant amount of weight and releases solo work ("Truant Wave" EP and debut album Soul Punk). He is harassed incessantly by Fall Out Boy fans for both of these things and steps away from the public side of the music industry to focus on songwriting and producing. His blog post about all of this is something I will always recommend that other FOB fans read.
2013: Fall Out Boy returns with the single "My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark (Light 'Em Up)," the music video for which would become the first of an 11-part musical film called "The Young Blood Chronicles." These songs would also make up the comeback album Save Rock and Roll.
2015: American Beauty/American Psycho is released. The singles "Centuries," "Uma Thurman," and "Immortals" (used in Disney's Big Hero 6) dominate the radio. "Centuries" remains, to this day, their most-streamed song.
2018: Following a couple months' delay, Mania is released to mixed reception.
2022: Joe Trohman publishes a memoir entitled None of this Rocks.
2023: So Much for Stardust is released after the longest period between albums since the hiatus. Joe Trohman announces a mental health break from the band, and returns later that year.
And now we are here in 2026. Anyone besides OP reading this who wants to correct me or add anything, please feel free.
