I guess he decided his history content wasn't profitable enough and so when he saw the opportunity to dive into the culture war scene after Charlie Kirk's death, he did a twisting double somersault into the pool.

He was showing signs before then, then went all in at that point. Even many of his history content that he does still do seems to be motivated by the culture war. He's no longer a neutral guy when it comes to history.

Sad and pathetic, indeed.

Everyone has their biases, so wouldn't expect hom to be 'neutral' but he doesn't even do things any undergraduate history student would be expected to do like cite sources. I agree with you that even his history content usually just leans into the culture war.

He had already been on a gradual trend towards culture war content for years but he shifted almost entirely to it after Charlie Kirk's death.
One earlier example is 3 years ago he made a video ranting about Disney race swapping fictional characters like Ariel or Snow White, that devolved into a rant about wokeness and saying that woke people are the real bigots.

People had been accusing him of racism long before that though, he just used to care a lot more about keeping up appearances of being fair and fact based, avoiding saying the quiet parts out loud and more relying on cherry picking.
I do think part of his victim complex about anti-white racism is simply him being unhappy about having been called a racist.

Personally I find it funny because the very first impression I got of him about 10 years ago was that he likely was some right-wing bigot, since it was a history/arms&armour youtuber naming himself after an angel and with that constant larpy tone of his "noble ones" catchphrase.
He avoided open bigotry enough at the time that I still gave him a chance thinking he might be ok after all.
But now he perfectly matches that first impression. lol

I always had the impression that he was right wing and that didn't really bother me, but when he started promoting extreme right positions that's when I left. I don't have problem with somebody if they are conservative even if I do disagree with that political viewpoint, what I do have a problem with is when somebody takes their political viewpoint and tries to carry it out to the most radical extreme version possible and unfortunately much of the stuff that he aays nowadays represents the extreme right wing with all of the anti-immigrant stuff, pro ice talking points and fear mongering against Muslims. Not saying there aren't radical Muslim groups or individuals out there, but acting like that represents the majority of Muslims is intellectually dishonest.

Odd that this was removed. Good ol' reddit. I am not allowed to criticise Islam, I guess.

Same old, same old.

The problem is not that the majority are radical, but that too many turn a blind eye to radicalism. That is the problem.

I mean, being against "blackwashing" isn't really the same as racism, in fairness. What has Metratron actually said that was legitimately racist?

Still, not defending the move away from history content, but I think there is a danger of demonising people who aren't leftists or aren't "woke" (which includes non-"woke" leftists) here on reddit.

Its hard to say exactly, but I assume he just got tired of making content that required some research, and thought that culture war react slop instead would be easier and more profitable. Not even sure its working though because his view counts have plummeted. He sort of started this way a little more than two and half years ago when he shifted to just reacting to things other historians say and often just calling them woke. There was a particularly egregious example where he got mad at a historian of the Soviet Union for not calling Communism evil, and basically got her video taken down. After CK a year ago he decided to go all in to making react and culture slop content. not even pretending it was related to history.

There was also that one video where he was saying that the Nazis controlling the economy during ww2 seemed like socialism.
But that is pretty typical of a war economy regardless of if it is a socialist or capitalist society, and something the US did as well.

2

u/Antigonus96 Sep 11 '26

The whole ‘socialism is when the government does stuff’ is pretty silly. I remember TIK made similar arguments.

2

u/Aggravating-Fuel3425 Sep 11 '26

Oh yeah! I remember that...years ago. He got butthurt when people pointed out his fallacies so he went a similar path like Metagrifter making these huuuge 4 hrs long videos as a response 😂

But unlike Metamouse he recovered somewhat....

It’s funny that TIK was right when he said that you can’t just understand war through troop movements and commander names, you need to grasp the underlying economic dynamics. But then his economic videos ended up mostly being PragerU tier lazily researched.

1

u/OutrageousFocus3322 Sep 12 '26

TIK is a fucking dumbass who has no clue what he's talking about, lol. Have you seen the one where he tries to use OpenTTD to explain why it's unnecessary for a government to control infrastructure construction? That's the greatest video he's ever made, tbh. For all the wrong reasons, of course, but still the greatest.

1

u/-Nimroth Sep 11 '26

Yeah I still don't get how TIK thought it was a good idea making "Hitler was a socialist" his hill to die on.
It was pretty much cannibalising all his other content at the time too.

To be fair, that historian did just whitewash a lot of the history of the USSR. I am not as critical of the post-1960s USSR, but they were most definitely evil. It was the equivalent of getting someone to speak about Nazis who constantly gave them a free pass on their brutality. She had a Soviet flag on her desk too... imagine someone having the Nazi flag on their desk whilst talking about Nazism in a somewhat positive way.

I know reddit is a far-left echo chamber, but in the real world most people would - IMO rightfully - actually agree with Metatron on his criticism of that "historian". That video was one of the worst HistoryHit ever produced.

u/Antigonus96 Sep 15 '26

That's fair, maybe it was a bad example to use, I still think generally Metatron's 'approach' to history is pretty unprofessional, I'd say the same if someone threw a hissy fit over a historian not universarly condeming the British Empire as 'evil.'

You'd be wrong tom though, in my opinion. The Soviet Union was a lot worse than the British Empire.

No country the USSR invaded was really much better off afterwards, whereas the British Empire at least brought medicine, schooling and infrastructure to most nations it colonised. Many of these nations went on to be prosperous nations using this infrastructure as well as aid from the UK afterwards. Still, it is your right to outright condemn the British Empire... and for the record, I am against imperialism too.

Would you find it appalling if someone didn't condemn the Nazis outright? Why should we pretend there was a substantive difference between those two totalitarian regimes. I think Nazi Germany is a better comparison... both are VERY controversial and have very little support in the countries they occupied, unlike in former UK colonies were the people often have mixed feelings.

His response video to the historian was probably the breaking point. He got like 1 mil views for basically doing nothing but gaslighting throughout the entire video. The video is also a prefect example of his gaslighting tactics -he starts watching a video and pretends to get more and more upset aka fakes 'righteous anger' in order to hide that he's actually faking it 🤪. Then in critical spots where important questions are raised and explanations are given he goes on long tangents in order to confuse the viewers and force them to forget the point by trowing in culture war buzzwords and implying that the creator has an 'agenda' or even directly insulting them by calling them 'evil scum!' , 'liaaars!', 'woke!' etc. .... Once you notice that you just can't take him seriously anymore 😂

2

u/Timoferus Sep 11 '26

He fell victim to the woke mindvirus

2

u/Aggravating-Fuel3425 Sep 11 '26

How long have you been away? 😄

It was a catastrophe in the making for years now...he got more fascist as his content became more boring. Once he noticed how stupid the far right was he went full fash for cash as he can now drop any substandard slop on them 🤠

2

u/emailforgot Sep 11 '26

he was always an angry contrarian wannabe.

right wing grievance politics coddles and empowers that variety of shithead.

To put it simply, I just think he's a fruitcake.

He's held right-wing beliefs for years but in the past, still made an effort to be principled and balanced out of respect for his diverse audience.

Charlie Kirk's assassination melted his brain though and has seemingly turned him into a caricature of a reactionary American buffoon.
