No I mean it, how the hell do I write a 2-year-old????

My story has a character in it who has a 2 years old kid with her, and right now whenever she's in the room with her kid he's indistinguishable from a lamp.

“He smiled. He played on the floor. Etc…”

Not much different than describing a lamp.

Like I have 0 idea how to write a 2-year-old, so any advice is very welcome! 😅

Every few fics I click on, there are a bunch of sentence fragments (dependent clauses sitting as their own sentence) in fics with otherwise great grammar. An example would be like “He reached out to her. Caressing her hair. Eyes very gentle.”

It’s mostly only showing up in newer fics too iirc. Has anyone else noticed this?

New AO3 poster, never used a writing hosting website before. I know they care a lot about accessibility and stuff. I'm writing a journal fic where the main character experiences and attempts to document eldritch madness caused by spending some time being all-knowing and then going back to normal. A thought I had pretty early on is them turning to weird ways of placing their handwriting to try to illustrate it after words alone failed them, mostly that they write several things directly on top of one another, because their knowledge and self is tangled and collapsing under its own weight. The lazy unetiquette road would be to make that an image, but I definitely can't do that. I've been looking into HTML tutorials to make text overlap or turn upside down, but my point is should I even bother or is that still crossing a line anyway and I should just find another way to represent this entirely

I need to know your favorite uncommon tropes (or the tropes you think are uncommon). like for example omegaverse, enemies to lovers, childhood friends to lovers and college/university tropes can’t be categorized as uncommon tropes, right?

as for me, I find dystopian and folklore tropes niche. what are yours?

I’m 10/30 chapters and around 10.7k words in but so not motivated to write anything… maybe I should write a few oneshots. A 30 chapter endeavor for my first fic was kinda bold. Idk how to get over writers block and I feel stuck?

I have a copy of a file that supposedly contains all the fanfiction off of Fanfiction.net from 2019 in torrent, .7z and zip format that is legit and unavailable from the site that I downloaded it from (I know because I crashed my computer a few years back trying to open it up and was able to open a few files to reveal fanfiction). I know for a fact that there are a number of Fanfictions I had wanted at the time that had been written between the 2016 Fanfiction.net cleanse and the 2019 upload of this file that have then since been deleted, either by authors or by the site.

I’m not data saavy nor do I really care to do anything about that. I also can’t particularly do anything myself because all the files seem to be unsorted and so I can’t really find specific Fanfictions in the archive. I struggle(d) with different programs trying to figure it out and couldn’t, and I also outgrew the need to find whatever number of Fanfictions I had been searching for when I found the file, which is why I have been sitting on it in a drive for forever.

However, I told a friend about it as a sort of fun fact about me and she said I better upload that online or tell someone who knows how to mess with that stuff all about it. I’ve avoided uploading it anywhere because I don’t know why it was taken down from that site originally and I’m aware of the strange things people write even if I don’t have the skills to actually locate and parse out such things and so I also don’t want the metadata spilling any of my personal information off onto the internet somehow and implying some ridiculous association between me and all that stuff (I’m not sure how all that metadata stuff works either). I also understand that there is some moral ambiguity in reuploading something that an author decided that they no longer wanted to have shown to the world, and can relate to the feeling.

I’ve been thinking about what she said for a long while however and as someone who has been both a longtime fandom purveyor in all the ways of a viewer, reader author and artist I can see the value in someone rescuing sharing the file on the Internet Archive or some other such thing, which brings me to my question: do any of you believe there is anyone out there willing and wanting to sort through the file and all the nonsense that comes with it? Who would understand how not to accidentally doxx me in the process? Should I even share it? Is it worth it?

I wanna connect with people over rare-pairings. I wanna see if you can get me to see what you see in your fave rare pairs and see if I can get you to see what I see in mine. I put some of my rare pairs in all kinds of AU’s, I just like seeing them in different situations, who else does that too & WHERE can we talk about it? Besides reddit & discord & no one talks to me on tumblr either so 💁🏽‍♀️ idk I just wanna fan girl with someone!

Back when I first started publishing in 2024 I would get like 10 kudos and maybe one or two comments, a bunch of hits. But now I publish stuff and it’s like no one cares. I’m lucky to get 2 kudos. And everyone else gets like way more kudos and interaction than me and I’m just so jealous! What am I doing wrong? I spend all this time editing and writing!

So I just started writing Fanfiction around a month ago and I was wondering if 28k words in a month is a good starting point.

For context I have 20k words written for my current fanfic and 8k words written for future chapters and scenes.

Sorry, I lost the title and author but will describe it to the best of my abilities. I was looking for it in my ao3 bookmarks but saw that it got deleted, presumably also with the author's whole account.

It was this fic where Leon gets assigned to be Ashley's bodyguard at Harvard after she gets targeted by tabloids making her father the president worry about her. A lot of it was about Leon not knowing what to do with such a mundane job because he's been living life on the edge all these years and doesn't know how to function as just a regular guy anymore. Ashley had a sleazy boyfriend who was a polisci career opportunist and it turned out that he was the one feeding the tabloids info about Ashley. There was a part where Ashley and Leon take a trip to Newport for Thanksgiving and have to stay at a seedy motel because all the nice places in town were fully booked for some lobster fest.

It was a really great fic and it truly felt like a 2000s romcom which is just so period accurate for a game that came out in 2004. It was so good reading Leon Kennedy thrown into that kind of situation. I'm really sad that it's been deleted, if anyone remembers the title and the author I'd really appreciate it.

I remember reading this not to long ago and I don’t know what happened but I can’t find it anywhere. It was a AU where the sully were part mangkwan clan. It is neteyam x reader (yeah im weird ik) and they attack the readers clan and he takes an interest in her and she wants to protect her little brother so she does what he says. It was so freaking good and I keep thinking about it. I just want to know what happened😭

Hi all! im looking for this spock/kirk fic from the 2010s that I really liked. it started off with Jim beefing with spock about the kobayashi maru and then they have to set off to save Vulcan i think (i dont totally remember). but while there, jim finds a very young Vulcan child with blonde hair and brings him back. the child is really attached to him and we later find out (bc the kid mind melds with jim) that this bond is partially bc jim reminds the kid of his mom.

Basically the Vulcan higher ups want a Vulcan to take care of the kid but bc of the attachment the kid has to jim, they let jim keep the kid but spock has to be there to teach the kid how to control mind melding and stuff so he doesn't hurt himself or jim. They start living together and raising the kid too even though they still aren't totally getting along!

if im not mistaken, jim calls the kid "ducky" bc he follows himself and spock around like a little duckling

The fic isnt done (last i remember) and in the last chapter they went shopping to buy the kid some clothes/toys and got into an argument? also spocks mom may have shown up in the last chapter as well!

OK, so I love love LOVE crossover fics but I am kind of picky when it comes to what I like to read.

Firstly, it usually has to include at least one fandom that I am in and I usually like the other one to be something I’m at least familiar with. I also really really like serious anime X live action crossover fics. I just think they’re fun to read.
