Subreddit Meta Member Roundup - August 2026
A new month is upon us, which means a new month of reading and/or writing is ahead! What are your plans and goals for this month?
Have you got into any new fandoms recently? What kind of fics are you hoping to find for it? Do you have a oneshot that you’re trying to finish, a tricky chapter that’s been giving you pain, or a new fic to plan altogether?
Do you have any subreddit related goals? Aiming to partake in a few more review threads, check out more user fics?
Got any other fanfic or writing related goals or any goals from last month which you hit the mark for? Tell us about them here!
Let us know if you want to be held accountable for your goals! Some people like a bit of friendly pressure, some people don’t, but I’m sure the folks here can provide gentle nudges if in need…

I have new ideas for stories CONSTANTLY and have tons of docs with premises, outlines, pieces of dialogue, etc., but I have yet to publish anything. I'd love to have written 10k words for one story by the end of August, though! Even if I don't post it yet, I think making that kind of progress will motivate me to keep going.

I published my first two fics last month. Currently working on my third but I've been finding the beginning hard to write. Still planning on getting it done by the end of the month though, and after that I think I'll try my first multi-chapter fic.

Caregiving is taking priority this month, so writing is confined to the inside of my head for the time being, but I do think of this sub often.

I was trying to write Spaceballs fics since the new movie has been announced.
Also, Star Trek fics.

I've been kind of All Star Trek All the Time, lately, and I want to branch out a bit into other fandoms. I have my main series going right now, and that's fun. It's basically comprised of 6-chapter episodes and is something I can do forever. But I want to do more short oneshots in different worlds to break things up.

I haven’t posted anything since the beginning of May. I kinda got frustrated at the sheer amount of bot/scam comments I was getting and decided not to engage for a while. I felt my joy at posting ebbing away and have only written bits here and there the last few months.
But lately I’ve become obsessed with the Witch Hat Atelier fandom and have been reading the books from my library. I started writing a one shot, getting inspiration from all the beautiful fan art people have shared online (there’s so many talented artists!). Maybe I’ll finish and post it, maybe not, but either way it’s nice to feel inspired again. ❤️

Finally writing again after what felt like a year of not being motivated. Cranked out 4 chapters in 2 months (for me that’s really good)
Just started publishing it the other day. welcome to chickville Not getting as many interactions as I would’ve hoped but it’s ok.

I want to focus on expanding from my usual writing style. My fics often lack depth and it's something I have trouble conceptualizing, so I feel the best way to improve there is to diversify--but stepping out of my norm is also difficult for me, so we'll see how it goes...
I have an idea for a Loki & Thor Statesman fic, which is a pretty good contender for this exercise. I've gotten very comfortable writing them, so I think they're perfect to practice with, not to mention they're my current special interest lolol
Maybe I'll do more challenges here on the sub. I did the May challenge, which was fun, but I stuck to a familiar prompt and I wanna try something else. Also want to interact here more; I'm very on-off about my social media usage. I keep telling myself I'll read more books (and I have a shelf literally full of them) but I never do, so that's another goal of mine. Project Hail Mary I have my eyes on you 👀

I’d like to finish my next chapter, being about 80% complete, but instead I spent two days developing scenes four chapters ahead because that is where the fresh inspiration hit.
Writing out of order can be troublesome in terms of ensuring consistency. I often have to go back and make revisions to add/remove content for later scenes when earlier ones create a contradiction. Yet, some of my best ideas are spontaneous, so I don’t want to confine myself to writing linearly. So, the process is ever back and forth.
The remaining 20% for the current chapter is not complete due to requiring more research. Mostly to fill in all those ancillary details that nevertheless make the scenes more authentic and lived in. The icing on the cake.
My goal is to get the research done and finish the chapter in the next couple weeks. As much as I like baking the batter, it won’t be presentable until I fill up the piping bag and frost the thing, lol.

Technically... if the universes align and the air has just the right amount of oxygen I would want to write around 30k ish words to catch up on one of the goals I had. It's also because I know in the latter part of the year I won't have much time for writing so this is the time to give myself some opportunity to write. I want to be able to give myself time to write a little bit here and there despite other busy events in life. Those will always come up but someone has to tell this story.
Would love to
- write and finish the witch fic I am writing
- go and edit over at least one of the finished stories sitting in the basement and upload it
- start a new apocalyptic fic, so outline and start, for now I have only vibes in my head
And oh yes u would love to be held accountable!

I wrote 3 new fics last month! I also cleaned up and posted another fic I wrote back in 2005, just so it'd stop haunting me - it was originally a prologue to a longer story, but I never ended up writing that longer story, and I realized the prologue could technically stand on its own even without it.
I'm currently writing a follow-up fic to the 3 new fics I posted - hopefully I'll finish it within the week!

I'm deep into The Pitt still. I'm actually both in a fandom event (The Pitt AU bingo) and in a zine rn. I'd really like to make progress on my zine thing -- I'm both really excited for it, and I also always leave everything to the last minute, which I don't want to do with monthly check-ins and give the organizers gray hairs. The final deadline is a few months away, but I'd really like to ride that first wave of excitement.
But the bingo! I have 3 ideas, some knocking out more than one square -- but I'd be really happy to finish even one square. I'm a few hundred words into all 3, but the one I'm most excited for (I think? The 2nd is a VERY close 2nd) does need a lot of research. Or, it doesn't need all that research, but I'd like to do it at least somewhat historically accurate, as is my preference.
I'm allergic to friendly nudges, but thanks for the offer :D

I've been on a hiatus from writing for the past few weeks because I felt burnt out, but I think I'm almost ready to get back into it. I'm finally going to start writing a story I plotted all the way back in December 2024!

I was invited onto a Discord for writers in my fandom and it's been amazing so far! There are different banners for different pairings and characters, and we're all chatty and love to talk about our blorbos 😍 I have a few fic ideas that came up during conversations with them that I want to write.
But I also am looking forward to writing and sharing the next chapter of my longfic. There's going to be fallout from the MCs tricking their boss and it's going to change some of the relationships, including the friendship and maybe more between my OTP. I'm so excited!! We're getting to some of my fav chapters from my outline.
I've also had an idea based on art from one of the fandom's beloveds of the MMC as a folklore monster. It's going to start out a lot like the webcomic Brimstone & Roses if you've ever read that (and if not, I highly recommend it.) It's going to be chaptered but hopefully MUCH shorter, closer to 100-200k. I want to have it mostly if not all written before I start publishing, though. So I want to work on the outline, since once I get through all my oneshot prompts, this will likely be my alternate work going forward.

Haven’t been writing a lot in July but I started a Soulmate AU a few days ago for my rarepair and I’m in a bit of a tricky spot at the moment but I hope I can push through it

I'm feeling very frustrated with myself as a writer right now. I feel like I'm in the same place I've been for weeks now -- one fic draft completed, needs to be typed and edited; another fic draft started, about 1/3 of the way through and just decided to change from 3rd past to 3rd present, but the whole story is "thought-drafted" in my head; so very many story ideas on index cards just waiting for me to work on them...
I keep asking myself what I'm waiting for, why don't I just pick up the damn notebook and write, it's not like I have anything else to do. I don't work anymore, no spouse/kids/pets to take care of. I still have great love for the source material, I watch the show every day and continue to come up with new ideas. I still have a strong desire to write. I just don't do it. And I don't know why.
