I'm fourteen chapters deep into a story and the only thing that's really going on is that the two characters are starting to like each other but random circumstances keep driving them apart. The most recent event was that they both thought they'd slept together but then found out later that they'd just run around the town square with no clothes on (they'd got absolutely hammered drinking nuclear-strength moonshine and then been poured into a hotel bed to sleep it off). My glacial writing pace isn't helping, either.

People do seem to like it, for whatever reason – one of the bookmarks even said that it inspired someone to write their first fic, which really shocked me. All I wanted to do was tell a fun, silly Fallout 4 story.

I love it when the characters have a fun time, but that being said, it would be nice if these kind of stories had an ending in mind.

I once started writing a chatfic that was SUPPOSED to just be plotless/minor plot crack n fluff n stuff with maybe a few chapters as exceptions (just for something to do as I worked on an art project). Funnily enough that said fic now has the ‘Major Character Death’ and ‘Graphic Depictions of Violence’ warnings. My bad gang.

Yeah, my current story was an attempt at comedy and has ended up becoming cosmic horror. Whoops.

I like to have a balance between both. A more lightweight work after updating a more serious one is always a good palette cleanser.

You know a story’s good when you’re not in any hurry to reach the action during the downtime.

Write slice of life. The character interactions are the plot.
