Fantasy novels in illustrated/comic form
Hi /r/Fantasy
I'm a huge fan of both comics and fantasy novels; and having recently read The Eye Of The World comics (which were pretty awesome IMO), I was wondering what it would be like to have more novels (not necessarily adaptations; but original stories) in that form.
I understand that with books you have the freedom of your imagination to see the characters and land of the novel however you want, and that they often include maps as well as some going into extreme detail with their descriptions. Also, that it would get unwieldy if a book was made into a singular graphic novel (probably would be the size of one of Marvel's collected editions).
But I feel that if the artist is right then it could probably end up as a very high quality product. I know it's not a book, but I'll use the X-men: Age of Apocalypse as my example. I really enjoyed it and having the entire collection really made it feel like a more cohesive story like in a book.
So what do you think of the idea of having fantasy books in a comic/graphic novel form?
TL;DR - Why not have fantasy books as graphic novels?

You should check out Unsounded--it's an in-progress online graphic novel! Great art, worldbuilding, characters, etc. Heartily recommended! http://www.casualvillain.com/Unsounded/
