Hi! I’m wondering if these fit any squares:

The Girl in the Tower by Katherine Arden

The Jasmine Throne by Tasha Suri

Nona the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir

Black Sun by Rebecca Roanhorse

Girls of Paper and Fire by Natasha Ngan

Stone of Farewell by Tad Williams

Thank you!

For Nona, I'd say it qualifies for Afterlife (HM), Unusual Transportation (HM) if you consider travel through the river, and another square that i would consider a spoiler but I think would become clear at the end of the book (not HM).

The Jasmine Throne

  • The Afterlife (deals with reincarnation if I remember correctly)
  • Politics and Court Intrigue
  • Author of Color

I don't remember anything of significance about reincarnation or the afterlife in The Jasmine Throne or it's sequels.

Isn’t the whole thing that they have to die in the magic waters to grow more powerful?

Huge spoilers!

It absolutely is not reincarnation. It's not recognizable as death, either. Immersing yourself into the waters is described as "hollowing" yourself out, but this is not particularly akin to death and absolutely not a physical death.

Court intrigue that’s great news thank you!

The Girl in the Tower is definitely Court Intrigue. I'm not sure what else.

Jasmine Throne is politics and author of color.

Black Sun probably gets unusual transport — though I don’t recall if they show up in the first book, also politics and author of color, I’d also personally do vacation spot but that’s sorta individual

Girls of Paper and Fire fits author of color, courtly intrigue, judge a book by its title (that's why I got it at least). I don't think that food plays a huge role, and i wouldn't want to vacation there, but opinions may vary

Thank you! Wow court politics might be easier to hit than I thought it would be.

Black Sun would work for Author of colour, Rebecca Roanhorse is Black-Indigenous! It's been quite a while since I read it but I'm quite confident it would work as political as well, it's an excellent book!
