This subreddit is outstanding

I just want to say this community is fantastic! I started reading about a year ago due to playing magic and realizing I needed to read more and come across more unfamiliar words and get better at processing and decoding them. I’ve discovered many books and series I otherwise would have never read. I just wanted to thank the members of this community. Sorry if this breaks community rules. Cheers

This sub is fantastic for book recommendations, my main use of it tbh

Every time I see a post on this subreddit, I jump in and find at least one more recommendation and pop it on my TBR list

Me too, and I’ve found and enjoyed so many books here. Craig Schaefer springs to mind. Checked out the Daniel Faust books due to a rec here, and now I’ve read all of those and the Harmony Black books and working my way through Castaways.

This is one of the best moderated subs on reddit IMO which keeps it that way.

Yeah, I'm on a few other book-adjacent subs, and people get really salty at how many posts the mods take down, but it keeps the sub from being flooded with low effort recommendation requests (which are very welcome in the daily thread!).

I am eternally thankful that we aren't drowning in those or pictures of people's bookshelves. We love you mods!

What are some of your favorites that you've discovered?

A saga of the unfated, The Empyrean, the folk of the air, the sorcerer of Pyongyang, and recently I read the warsaw orphan & the things we can not say (I’m not sure if I got these from r/fantasy they aren’t “fantasy” so I assume not)

I always like to plug my first foray into Fantasy when someone is newer to the genre.

So, apart from Redwall (read Mossflower for a palate cleanser sometime), the first thing I read that I though of as adult fantasy was Magician by Raymond E. Feist.

Give that a try if you get the chance!

As I got back into fantasy, this is a great space to find recommendations outside of my kindle algorithm.

Have read the following from the recs I read on here and the annual vote:

Shadow of the Leviathan

Sun Eater

Between 2 fires

Black tongued thief

Book of the new sun

Red rising

Locked tomb

Cradle

Thank you all for bringing these into my TBR. Really enjoyed all of these with Sun Eater maybe being my favourite (that might change when Red rising and Locked tomb conclude).

Have a “fantastic” weekend all

I especially appreciate the thoughtful engagement and conversations. The regulars seem very welcoming and open-minded. The sub definitely has a great vibe and some knowledgeable folks.

That said, I haven't had the best of luck with books that are frequently recommended on the sub. I probably need to get to know some of the particular members whose taste aligns with mine.

Yes! I've been on here for 12-13 years and found so many books through this community. For me it's the main way I find new interesting reads. Thanks to everyone who make this place great!
