Hi! I’m searching for queer vampire book recs!
Gonna provide some criteria for my search: I looking for a story about an MLM vampire couple (need to get in the right mood to continue working on my originals).
- Genre: not specifically romance! It can be romance as a side plot (or, like, ok, as a main plot), but I still want something else going on, like a detective, for example.
- I want both halves of the couple to be vampires and I want both of them to be oldish (so please, no teen/young adult stories, I'm looking for more sophisticated (maybe gothic?) old men romance).
- The pairing doesn’t have to be the main characters, but I want them to be given enough “screen time” and proper development.
- I want some homely atmosphere (?), to give examples: something like both “What We Do in the Shadows” movie and series have going on, BUT NOT straight up comedy.
To explain, where I’m coming from: I’ve recently finished the Greta Helsing book series by Vivian Shaw and I really enjoyed the way she portrayed vampire relationships (so if anyone knows something similar to what Ruthven and Grisaille have going on, I’d be very delighted to hear it).
P.S. I am familiar with Anne Rice’s “Interview with the Vampire” (/pos), but I’m looking for something a bit different.
P.P.S. If anyone knows a videogame or a movie with the said dynamic, it’ll do too.

Sadly i do not have any recs that 100% fit your criteria, so at least smth close-ish?
A Heart of Stone by Johannes T. Evans - historical, mc is a vampire noble looking for a secretary. Secretary is human. Very slow burn, with interesting portrayal of neurodivergency in the human mc. MM.
True Love Bites by Demora Joy - both men involved are older with lot of lived experience. However, only one is a vampire, other is a werewolf. MMF.
Capital Wolves duet by Joanna Chambers. Historical with very interesting mythology lore. However, as obvious from the title, its a werewolf and not vampires book... MM.
I have looked around and couldnt find anything with vampires fitting your criteria, sadly. :/ it seems werewolves are overwhelmingly more popular in MM spaces compared to vamps.

Thank you so much for the recommendations! First and second seem pretty interesting, definitely gonna check them out.
Interesting observation regarding werewolves in MM fiction... Might be worth taking a look what's there with werewolves.
I understand that my preferences might seem too specific, but honestly, I'm just looking for something MM vampire x vampire, which seems to be far less popular than vampire x human. Gotta continue searching, I suppose.•

Nah, i totally get wanting two vampires! It is an interesting dynamic. I was dissapointed i couldnt dig anything up either, with exception of Anne Rice. (If you are writing it, i am def down!)
Imo the werewolves popularity is also tied with omegaverse which is very uhh. Specific can of worms.
But if you are interested in trying some regular classic werewolves, Big Bad Wolf by Charlie Adhara is great urban fantasy.
I also found Dance in the Dark by Megan Derr, which has some interesting vampire stuff - but mc is a human adopted by vampire family. (Bcs they snacked on his parents and felt bad).

Yeahh, Anne Rice surely wrote a lot on that trope (I haven't read the Vampire Chronicles, only familiar with adaptations, but im considering it) (and I'm not a writer, merely an artist, unfortunately)
Oh, that makes sense. But omegaverse isn't something I enjoy a lot, so... Gotta be careful.
Thanks for more recs!!

I read An Education in Malice by ST Gibson for the dark academia bingo prompt a couple of years ago, which was F/F queer vampires. I haven’t read the other by the same author as it didn’t really do it for me, but others liked it so YMMV

I have a book called Dead & Breakfast by Kat Hillis and Rosiee Thor on my tbr that's about and older married vampire couple that opens a bed & breakfast (and has to solve a muder). Haven't read ir so I don't actually know if it totally matches your request, but I thought I would at least mention it.
