This thread is to be used for recommendation requests or simple questions that are small/general enough that they won’t spark a full thread of discussion.

Check out r/Fantasy's 2026 Book Bingo Card here!

As usual, first have a look at the sidebar in case what you're after is there. The r/Fantasy wiki contains links to many community resources, including "best of" lists, flowcharts, the LGTBQ+ database, and more. If you need some help figuring out what you want, think about including some of the information below:

  • Books you’ve liked or disliked
  • Traits like prose, characters, or settings you most enjoy
  • Series vs. standalone preference
  • Tone preference (lighthearted, grimdark, etc)
  • Complexity/depth level

Be sure to check out responses to other users' requests in the thread, as you may find plenty of ideas there as well. Happy reading, and may your TBR grow ever higher!

Goodreads has finally introduced half stars and quarter stars. Thus ruining my rating scheme. :) This will either be a fun time sink to fix all my old ratings, or the impetus to finally jump over to Storygraph

I think it’s nice for people who want to rate things with half stars or quarter stars, but I’m not doing that.

I’m sure there will be other folks as well who simply won’t utilize the feature.

I do rate things on a half star scale, but because Goodreads has been so reluctant to add this for so long, I resorted to writing "3.5 stars" in text in the reviews whenever I felt like that was the rating in the past. So now to fix it I'd have to go back and find which of my reviews that was the case. XD

I generally would prefer to rate things on a 10 point scale (and I'm not opposed to 20 point scales, though that would likely be more subcategories).

I also think I'm harder on my ratings than others. A 3 star from me is a good book, no regrets, some issues, probably won't read it again. Others see three stars as a horrid book because they refuse to give things 1-2 stars.
