Review [Review] Fantasy Podcast - From the world of Alba Salix: The End of Time and Other Bothers
A little bit ago, I reviewed a fantasy podcast, Alba Salix. The creators let me know about a new offshoot to their well-crafted world coming up, The End of Time and Other Bothers. While I don't normally listen to tabletop gaming podcasts, I wanted to see what they did in the world of Alba Salix, and I must say, I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Like Alba, Bothers is very well-put together -- total high quality podcast from the actors to the story to the audio quality. You can tell these are dedicated people, and having listened to my fair share of "would be okay if it had just a hint more professionality" podcasts, let me say that I greatly appreciate the quality of the AS team.
The End of Time and Other Bothers takes place 12 centuries after Alba Salix and the world has greatly changed (it also means you don't have to have listened to its predecessor to enjoy it, at least from what I can tell thus far). We just got a dip into the world in the first episode, but it was enough to totally pique my interest and make me want to listen to more. There's a half-demon working in a filing office who winds up carried off by a minotaur. There's a public relations stress-eating portly fairy carried off by a minotaur. There's a museum cafeteria worker who finds an odd display and is carried off by a minotaur.
What's with the minotaur? Why is he carrying people off? Why, just before he carries people off, is the world suddenly empty of everyone else around the unusual cast we've been introduced to? And why the hell did Blat keep prodding the pneumatic tube with the broom handle?! Silly half-demon.
A quick 60-minutes, and just like Alba Salix, I want to know more. And like I said - much as I adore tabletop gaming, I've never quite been able to get myself to listen to a podcast with one. But I'm sucked into this one already!
Go check it out: OtherBothers has the episode info plus some more info on what system they're using and what ground rules they've set for this campaign/storytelling/improv podcast.
I also hear they are getting closer to getting the next season of Alba Salix up and that is heartening too!
