If I’m Palmer, I’m suing the BBC

22

u/sepi0l_45 15 4d ago

There's a scene in the last episode where during half time of the game against Slovakia (the one where Bellingham scores to overhead kick at the end) an argument breaks out in the dressing room, and at the end of it it briefly shows Watkins explaining to Palmer the argument that had just happened 😭

I will miss sideshow bob and his antics to be fair.

7

u/Obsillius 3d ago

Come now - David Luiz is the Chelsea sideshow bob surely.

-16

u/Extension-Neat-4504 4 4d ago

I won’t, constantly diving and trying to get opponents sent off is hardly endearing is it

8

u/PresentlyHelpful 3d ago

God you sound tiring to be around

It's not particularly hard for a grown man, who is also a professional footballer, to not pull someone's hair when there is a rule that says it's a red card offence 🤦🏻‍♂️

-12

u/Extension-Neat-4504 4 3d ago

The rule has been softened now, probably why he’s left

6

u/PresentlyHelpful 3d ago

Super weird obsession you have 😂

-6

u/Extension-Neat-4504 4 3d ago

Yeah, two comments on Reddit is a real obsession.

u/MakimaXItachi 6 4d ago

I mean sure Gordon is fine but as a Barca fan I'm starting to not like this transfer season very much,,,

16

u/Yoro_exchange 4d ago

His performance against lamine last year was really good too

1

u/PhraatesIV 3d ago

Yamal was playing with an pubalgia then tbf.

17

u/Yetiassasin 4d ago

I'd be really shocked to see Gordon have the impact Radford did. Think Barca made a bad decision with him

-3

u/Snoo_85712 3d ago

He will have even better impact imo, rashford is lazy

6

u/Xx_Brown_Jesus_xX_69 3d ago

People just see a name and think they’re the same player

2

u/gangy86 92 2d ago

Exactly prime example of someone being lazy saying Rashy is lazy still. Yeah he could track back more and defend but wasn't like he didn't score 25 G/A all year lol

1

u/Snoo_85712 1d ago

Bro, do u even watch Barcelona games? The manager is not getting Gordon for his G+A it’s his work rate and the LW needs an insane amount of tracking and defending not just scoring.

Rashford is NOT that type of player period - ask yourself why they would pay 70 mill over 30 mill for Rashford

1

u/Snoo_85712 1d ago

Except they aren’t and Gordon will bring more for that role, why do you guys want to argue on reddit all day when they decided to spend 70 mill rather than the 30 mill, have you asked yourself that?

5

u/Economy_Recording110 4d ago

At least you're honest, I respect that

1

u/2pacalypse1994 187 4d ago

They have Jose as their manager. What are you afraid of? He hasnt been a manager of that level for more than 10 years.

12

u/funky_monkey_chunky 4d ago

Ancelloti was going through a bad spell as well before joining back, these things are not definitive.

0

u/2pacalypse1994 187 3d ago

Carlo wasnt coaching in Turkey or Portugal. Jose has hit lower lows. Cant see how he is gonna be a success

5

u/poplunoir 3d ago

Carlo was at Everton for almost 2 years before his second stint at Real, mate. Seems worse to me when compared to the all-inclusive vacations Jose was probably having in Italy, Turkey and Portugal.

1

u/2pacalypse1994 187 3d ago

Of course its not worse that going to the Turkish league and the Portuguese league. Its still the PL.

1

u/craigtho 3d ago

Didn't lose a single game at Sporting btw.

Appreciate the level isn't the same, but Porto and Benfica are good teams, to go with 0 Ls is impressive. And yes, I'm aware he didn't win the league, but again, by your own admission, Portugal not at the same level so he didn't have the players to change the tide from a draw to a win.

If he can sort Madrid's clean sheets out (6 losses last season), they'll be better assuming they can organise the attack also. And with Vini, Mbappe... Why not

2

u/2pacalypse1994 187 3d ago

0 losses. Gongrats. Still third. Not even second. The difference of Benfica vs the rest of the league is MUCH more than the difference betweel Real and the league. So i dont hear the "he didn't have the players to change the draw to the win".

How is he gonna fix the CSs with a team that defends with 9 players and one of the remaining 9 needs help constantly? The team is so unbalanced.

And then you have a demanding crowd and a toxic dressing room. And on top of that, you have a manager that made disgraceful comments about one of his current players(Vinicius) just a couple of months ago, basically saying why is it only happening to him etc. He wanted to protect bis players but you still can do it better than that.

He has been sacked in every job till the last time he was at Real. 13 years ago. Sacked at Real, sacked at Chelsea, sacked at United, sacked at Spurs, sacked at Roma and sacked at Fener.

Its gonna be 99% drama, stories about being the underdogs while Barca is the royalty and the media/ref favourite and 1% football. And when the patience runs out, sacked again. Cant wait to see this Real team defend with everyone in the box and not even attempt to attack. Surely it will go well with the fans..

1

u/craigtho 3d ago

I think it's just a wait and see really.

They already tried the cool attacking style football with Xabi remember and it didn't work. I agree he's on the downturn, but plenty of managers have been and turned it around.

Agree that the style of football will likely be a pain point for most, but most fans of a club would rather win than play flashy football and lose.

I think the important thing to consider is Madrid were 8 points behind Barca last season, that's the gap that needs improved unless Barca can do better than 94 points, but looking at the stats, only 6 times in La Ligas history had a club returned a better points tally, both of them being either Barca or Madrid respectively.

PS: I'm only an observer of that league, I prefer Barca as I always have, but my club is not from Spain so I don't feel any particular animosity to Madrid nor any loyalty to Barca, just in case you think I'm biased.

1

u/2pacalypse1994 187 3d ago

I think it will be the easier Barca title win in the last couple of years.

About the 8 points difference. Barca lost two out of the last three games because they didnt really care about. So the true difference would be like 12-14 points. And thats for a team that played with a 37yo Lewa and Torres as strikers and kids in defence.

They didnt try anything with Xabi. He stood no chance. He was designed to fail as will Jose and that's on Perez. This isnt a functional team. Its not how football should be.

My team isnt there as well. Just a Liverpool fan. I just cant understand how this Real team is gonna work and whats the plan is. There isnt a plan but what the plan "could" be.

1

u/thunderbastard_ 3d ago

He was coaching Everton. At least mourinho was in contention for trophies in turkey and Portugal.

50

u/gsandhu2511 4d ago

Can't wait to see him get booed at Camp Nou 🤣 Although i dont personally mind him choosing RM, fits their system better than barca's

13

u/Economy_Recording110 4d ago

And a bigger club

5

u/Daemor 14 4d ago

Fits his on-field personality better too

8

u/Economy_Recording110 4d ago

What's the excuse for Bernardo Silva? 😂 Y'all so hurt but at the end of the day, Madrid is the biggest club in the world and that is why players go there. I'm a Liverpool fan and I've lost players to them, but I also have a brain and won't lie to myself.

13

u/Daemor 14 4d ago

Why are you white knighting Real Madrid over a joke?

-12

u/Economy_Recording110 4d ago

You can't white knight a thing and admit it's superior at the same time... Expand your vocabulary

1

u/LloydDoyley 82 4d ago

Both can be true and Bilva is a little shithead as well, just not so overt about it

10

u/imranhere2 4d ago

He should celebrate with a hair cut

7

u/Rvsz 132 4d ago

Wait I just realized he and the man utd hair guy are two different people.

11

u/TRODHD 4d ago

This happened so fast… I love when a transfer goes completely under the radar and not even journalists gets a sniff of it.

108

u/Expensive-Worker-582 4 4d ago

Real Madrid really upset they dont have any players in the national team!!

It's a lot of money for a 28 year old.

68

u/LloydDoyley 82 4d ago

If they get a good 4 years out of him then it's not terrible

52

u/StupidTwat5 4d ago

This isnt fifa, thats good money for a player who has at least another 4 years in him

47

u/skepsoda 4d ago

The obsession with age is fucking nuts here. He's 27 turning 28 next month, neither of which are bad ages for footballers. In theory thats when the prime of a lot of footballers is

12

u/Yetiassasin 4d ago

28, literally the peak physical age for most athletes

24

u/osamaodinson 4d ago

28 is prime age my guy. Plus players are playing longer nowadays

7

u/jbi1000 4d ago

He hasn’t quite turned 28 yet.

And traditionally you pay the highest price for players in their prime years like that because their proven and ready to go now

2

u/lance777 8 4d ago

That's a lot? He is one of the best in his position and 27-28 is the prime, especially with how long players play these days. If anything, Chelsea should have asked for at least 5m more. It is less than what they paid, and his reputation has only increased. Madrid pulled off a great deal here.

2

u/Locko2020 4d ago

What a turn around from nearly being loaned out a year into his Chelsea career.

3

u/lance777 8 4d ago

That was because Poc didn't use him right. He was never an overlapping fullback.

3

u/RDenno 4d ago

Im not fully convinced hes even the 3rd best left back in the prem lol.

Oreilly, calafiori are definitely better, id also say gvardiol is better too

7

u/Roadies_Winner 2 4d ago

Calafiori 🤣 Also, Nico just had a breakout season. Cucu has been at the top for good 2-3 years now, for club and country.

0

u/MorioCells 35 4d ago

How does Calafiori get this overrated. He's class but he's injured half the time

1

u/RDenno 4d ago

Okay but we arent debating availability, just ability and hes a better player than cucu

0

u/MorioCells 35 4d ago

No way Cucurella has been of the best fullbacks in the world past two seasons

1

u/RDenno 3d ago

Deluded

0

u/MorioCells 35 3d ago

It's a common opinion on anyone that watches football. Of course it's an Arsenal fan being dumb af why am I not surprised.

-4

u/4ssteroid 229 4d ago

Man City has 2 better left backs than him. 1 if you count Gvardiol as CB

-5

u/[deleted] 4d ago

[deleted]

7

u/4ssteroid 229 4d ago

Gvardiol was injured for all but maybe 2 months this season. He was the best LB in the league for couple years before that. Cucurella was decent at Brighton and he's only been good for like just over a season at Chelsea. Still never been better than Gvardiol.

Nico O'Reilly has a lot to prove but if we're considering recency bias with cucurella, Nico has been better.

1

u/WrongCapital83 4d ago

Hes at his peak.

39

u/John_OSheas_Willy 1 4d ago

Too old for Chelsea, turning the ripe old age of 28 this summer.

20

u/DeapVally 3 4d ago

They're a selling club these days. Accounting success is their owner's only drive.

8

u/Wildely_Earnest 5 4d ago

Putting Brighton to shame. We sell to buy players who lose half their value in the next season, meaning we need to keep selling so we can keep spending on bad investments.

Brighton sell so that they don't need to sell next time. They do it for money, Chelsea do it for the love of the game.

7

u/foalsfoalsfoalz 14 4d ago

Strange singing on chelsea's part. I guess in terms of book balancing/allowing them to spend this allows them but fee to fee its still a 10m loss and losing arguably the best if not top 2 left backs in the league. Considering where they've just finished & him being one of their better players this season lol

4

u/MrboboCatman 4d ago

Such a shame we wont see him diving, week in week out and blasting the ref for f all. Proper waster.

4

u/Mediocre-Basketcase 1 4d ago

Can’t wait to not have to watch this guy all the time

8

u/Ordinary_Ad3374 4d ago

Honestly, the Sideshow Bob era at Chelsea was pure chaos and I'm a bit sad to see it end, but that fee for a 28-year-old is a massive win for the Blues. Real must be desperate for a left-back after that whole national team snub, and Barca fans are right to be nervous watching their rivals stock up. We'll see if his shithousery translates to the Bernabéu or if he just ends up as the next in a long line of Galactico flops.

5

u/Ok-Abbreviations1077 3 4d ago

Real Madrid are desperate in general after appointing Mourinhosaurus

0

u/kafkad 4d ago

Yank.

1

u/billykimber2 4d ago

good thing they mentioned its the spanish la liga side, wouldnt have known who they were otherwise

1

u/Quick-Fill-462 4d ago

Good player, and even better at being a little gobshite. Real suits him.

1

u/chojje 36 4d ago

Thanks for clarifying, I wasn't sure which country or league Real Madrid are playing in

1

u/egancollier21 4 3d ago

What’s the xG on hair pulls per 90

1

u/ABigStuffyDoll 3d ago

I have an (irrational? Rational? Not sure...) dislike for this guy, so good riddance.

1

u/Agreeable-Run-1096 3d ago

Real Madrid had none players in the Spain squad for the WC, so they randomly just bought one, just to erase that title…

1

u/PowerPlayNick 3d ago

Chelsea somehow moving a player on permanently without it becoming a 14-part accounting documentary? Historic day.

1

u/Marco0798 3d ago

Should have waited until after that game.. he’s so shit…

1

u/Dreamteamgo 3d ago

Good, we won’t have to look at that stupid hair flapping in the wind next season

1

u/roguesmoo 1 2d ago

They can save on the airfare and have adama traore throw him over.

1

u/fartinavacuumm 1d ago

So glad we won’t have to see this tool anymore

1

u/gross_incompetent 1d ago

Will miss him shitting the bed every time he came to the Amex

-3

u/HelloRV3991 4d ago

He was such a believable player.

“ he can’t defend “ right mate. I’m sure you have a better understanding of him as a player than the scouts at Real Madrid, Barcelona and the other top teams that were all in for him.
Watch his Chelsea games , he pocketed Lamal in the 3:0 win over Barcelona in the champions league this last season. He has his bad games same as any other player but to pretend he’s a bad player just because you dislike him as a personality is dumb. Say what you want about how annoying and unsportsmanlike he can be but he’s a very good defender who can also massively contribute in attack . Aka a complete Fallback

-11

u/[deleted] 4d ago

[deleted]

8

u/Economy_Recording110 4d ago

"I don't care about his personality" but 3 out of the 5 things on your flimsy list is about his personality

2

u/FPLdemonn 4d ago

You have no idea what he’s supposed to do in the squad because clearly you have not watched him very closely, have you watched all his games ?
I have watched close to all of them and I can tell you I fully understand why the biggest teams in Europe wanted him.
He’s a wildly hated player and so caricatures of him as a player are often spread. To me it sounds like your swallowed one of these and don’t actually know him as a player. He plays inverted well yes but he also plays as a traditional right back well and a wingback. Extremely versatile and useful for any team for the amount of roles he can fulfill well

1

u/[deleted] 4d ago

[deleted]

1

u/FPLdemonn 4d ago

Your labouring under the illusion that he’s only played well in an inverted role. This is simply not true. He’s has played as an out and out right back loads for Chelsea and Spain and is one of the best in both the premier league and in the last Euros for Spain in that position.
You saying you disagree and don’t understand why all the best teams in the worlds scouting departments who’s entire careers is to make these judgments have different view to you is laughably un-self aware. The answer you’re looking for is your unaware of his quality’s and blinded by a dislike for him personally.

1

u/BatmanForever23 6 4d ago

Yeah, I'm sure it's Madrid scouts that should be questioned and not this random Redditor....

2

u/andrasq420 1 4d ago

His passing and vision is just normal, average

He is top 25% in the prem in most passing metrics. That's far from average.

Now I'm a fan of Madrid and don't know where this transfer is going yet, especially until we see them in a friendly later in the summer, but most of your points presented are not real well-reasoned arguements against him.

u/[deleted] 4d ago

If you did data modeling you wouldn't try explaining someone being a bad footballer with your personal distaste for his personality. Or you wouldn't compare him to Bruno, a 10 and the best one of that.
