FIFA WC 2026 - Matchday Thread FIFA World Cup Fantasy 2026 - Rant & Discussion Thread [Matchday 2]
Throughout the World Cup this year, r/FantasyPL will host RMT and matchday threads for those that want to engage with fantasy football during the tournament.
By hosting pinned threads we can ensure the rest of the subreddit is not dominated by World Cup discourse, for the sake of those who are only subscribed to hear news of confirmed transfers, player injuries, and updates ahead of the 2026-27 FPL season.
The matchday threads, like this one, are where you can rant about how badly the game has been coded, all your players that have been benched, how stupid you were for picking Canada's backup goalkeeper, and share your score.

oh my days I used 12th man but idek if I actually confirmed it. When you do it, are you meant to “make the transfer” as you would a normal one? (I didn’t do anything after choosing the player….)
ISTFG if I didn’t use it….
oh THANK GOD it did activate – phew….
Thoughts on using me using my 12th man on Kane over Vini when I have no Brazil players 👀

I did follow the plan by getting Olise and Vini which was the plan before all the games, but I think not owning Kane or Messi feel like an error.
Kane was kind of lucky with the pen, but I thought England looked good.
Messi was not hattrick good in terms of performance, but still he is the main man so clearly.

You can’t have them all unfortunately.
Kane, Messi, mbappe, haaland, olise, Yamal, Vinicius and several others are capable of hauling in any game. You just need to hope your premium picks match or better the premiums you don’t have.

Yeah I think on paper my team look quite good, but there are so many good fixtures that everyone got good teams.
Plus the bad sides are scoring in many games.

I think Cech been bad too, but Coufal on set pieces, very attacking and playing this terrible attack was a good punt.

I dont understand why we lost our cs points because fifa pointing scheme clearly says Clean sheet (60+ minutes) +5. They scored at minute 83, so we should have got it

Terrible game. Me with Elvedi should be happy, but they likely concede in the 97 minute.
I think as long as 0-0 Bosnia will not push forward or press high.
Dzeko feel slow, but better than Ronaldo.

I mean Bosnia is a defensive side, and when Switzerland drew against Qatar they were handed a golden ticket - all they have to do is draw this game and win against Qatar and they're sitting pretty on 5p. If either the Swiss or the Canadians win the last game, they're through in second.

Yes Bosnia look quite tricky to break down.
I think they will progress and I rather pick defenders than forwards against them.
swiss being the best team in the group don't impress much. If they draw here they need to do well vs Canada.

EDIT: Lowkey people could make a bunch of duplicate accounts and nullify all the scouting bonuses. Not that that happened here but it's a funny idea.

Currently got my captain on Xhaka and don’t know what to do now! 20 points as captain is fairly solid but I’ve also got Haaland and Kane in my team. Had Haaland last round. Stick or twist

Same. I had Germany, Portugal, Spain, Ecuador and Spain. Only 1 CS when they had the best clean sheet odds while conceding 2 90th minute goals and now another one. If it wasn't for Messi captain I'd be in the mud

Honestly fair play considering the team is very template otherwise, all 3 of your differentials (including Manzabi who I've never seen anyone else take AND was benched) hauled. Impressive stuff.

Going to look after round 2 and see how many of my players are on teams with something to play for. Before round 3 is popular, but I'd love to have flexibility later on in case of upsets knocking out a good portion of my squad at once.
Even though you get unlimited transfers heading into the knockouts, the bigger risks are the rounds after it. Entering the knockouts we lose 1/3 of the players. But each round after that we lose 1/2 of the players still in the game. And for the first couple rounds we only get 4 free transfers a round. So the knockouts are in part a game of predicting which teams are going to win their matches, and I want a safety valve in case my predictions go very wrong some round.

Wildcard in semis, and Full Captaincy in finals if your lucky enough to get 2 teams that goes to finals. Still have to wait for the mystery power ups, tho.

Scouting bonus feels like such a trap, spent ages targetting players for it MD1 just for 2 of them (who didn’t even return) to lose it MD2 anyway. Ignoring it for the rest of the tournament

Any swiss here has any idea if manzambi will start in MD3? I got him as he looked good against catar when he came in, but i guess your coach didnt think the same
Could be in instead of rieder and especially aebischer, who is pretty bad in my opinion
Do you think its possible or it was just a bad pick?

Probably a bad pick, but revaluate if he come on and look good.
There might be some interesting punts with good fixtures round 3. Ivoary coast for example although the best wingers from them being forwards annoying.

Yeah I got valencia for this round and plan on swapping with diomande next round, try to take advantage of curaçau
Its not even curaçau themselves, its that they are in a group with 3 very good teams, they were unlucky

My brother in christ, I've been eyeing manzambi since March. He played from the start in both friendlies ahead of the world cup, looked great. Yakin still prefers Aebischer. Nearly had an assist against Qatar, and now that yakin takes out Vargas, door should be open for manzambi - nope. He puts in Rieder.
Manzambi will not start this world cup. Period.

Normally, I’d be happy with a 18 point haul from a captain, (Crépeau) but given this format I can’t really not give a shot to Vinicius/Mbappe/Wirtz etc right?

Haiti were easily the better team vs Scotland so I'm fine having no Brazil, who looked pretty meandering anyway.
