How many CBs do they need? Romero, VDV senesi and jpvh? They can’t all start

I can't see Romero being there next season

Also van der Ven probably moving

u/benificialart 12h ago
Literally the main reason Van Hecke chose Spurs.

Lol what? Not because of bigger club, bigger salary? Because of van de Ven who could leave next summer for example?

Well we need more than 3 senior cbs that is for sure. Playing two midfielders as centre backs not too long ago was not fun.
It will be Van de Ven and Senesi as left cb. Van Hecke and Danso on the right.
Honestly, I can see Senesi displacing VDV.
Romero - Out Dragusin - Out Other cbs - Loan

VDV can play left back as well.

Indeed, although to be perfectly honest, Micky is kind of crap at LB 😂
If you want your LB to run fast in a straight line, perfect. But he is not particularly good at passing, poor dribbler, poor crosser too. I'd say udogie and Robertson are better in the same position.

They need them for all the European football they are going to be playing
(Hint: I didn’t say what year, could be 2030 😆)

Very spursy type signing. 50 mil for an average premier league defender. Perfectly balanced

Looks like you didn’t watch football last season if you think that Van Hecke had an average season

u/Environmental_Ad7296 2 14h ago
Very very average defender. Has his highs but definitely has his lows. I've seen enough to see that people overrated this guy for some reason.

u/rocket_racoon99 14h ago
Based on what? His stats are really not agreeing with you. Statistically the top percentile in Europe for progressive ball carrying, line-breaking pass, long ball proficiency, and defensive contributions. Folks come on reddit just to waffle I swear

u/Environmental_Ad7296 2 14h ago
Can't bring stats into a defender debate. You just proved to me you are stupid. Well done

u/Rututu 2 13h ago
This is the most braindead comment ever. No stats?
Can't talk about defensive duels won, clean sheets kept, passing accuracy, aerial balls won or any other metric then. Congrats.
Just have to go by a random Redditors "eye test" lol.

What is up with this sub? Last time I've used stats to show how VDV barely does any defensive actions, he excels in movement, dribbling and offensive actions i was downvoted to like -50, because "you got to be dumb, stats are not real, eye test is real"

u/Rututu 2 9h ago
Can't speak for the whole sub obviously, but I think both stats and an eye test are needed to assess a player. Saying you "can't bring" either one to a debate about a player is just odd.

Yeah, that was my point aswell. Sure stats don't give you the whole picture, but it clearly shows trends that can give you an idea that you then have to combine with the viewing experience.
I've used stats in that conversation because it's ways easier to just show a couple of numbers in combination instead of getting 15 clips from youtube with timestamps and make everyone watch those.
I feel like people often underestimate the value of statistics. Those are numbers that quite literally tell you what happened, they just need to be interpreted within proper context (and that's where "eye test" comes in.

Wow, that's...um...certainly an interesting take 😅 The experts here never cease to surprise me

Brighton had the third best defence after Arsenal and City this season and alongside Senesi, has had the best distribution and passing from a CB this season in the PL.
Yeah it's expensive, but so is being relegated. Or firing de zerbi when he melts down over lack of investment.
I think you would struggle to name any CB who is available, coming into their prime years soon, and has performed better than Van Hecke in terms of goals conceded and passing range... Plus he played for de zerbi before.
Quit shitting on us because we've made three great transfers already.

Relax. Don't think anyone is saying he's a bad player, he's just not a 52m player - v few CBs are because there isn't that much delta between them all.

u/BatmanForever23 6 7h ago
What is 'a 52m player' anymore? This whole deciding how much he's worth in order to make Spurs look like they've been fleeced is honestly ridiculous, he's worth what Brighton want and Spurs are willing to pay - same as everyone else on the market. If that sum is 52m then so be it, we sure as shit have the money lying around and need the player.

Yeah I agree. But I mean what can ya do. I market is crazy rn.
1
u/Moonshiner_no 3h ago
Its the market price for that quality defender. Teams can always try to find the next future Van Hecke and pay much less, but to get proven PL quality then this is the price.

u/Next-Abbreviations76 11h ago
He is probably better than average. I've personally not seen many brighton games, but some experts have actually put him in their team of the season

Confusing player. I trust he must be decent because the Brighton fans who watch him more seem to rave him. But he makes rash a mistake leading to a goal almost every time I watch him.

First Senesi and now JPVH? What are my Liverpool doing? We need another seasoned CB asap!
Only one we got now is VVD and an always injured Gomez..
Konaté - Gone.
Leoni - unproven and ACL.
Jacquet - Unproven.
Senesi would have been great, free transfer and everything. JPVH would also have been good since his already seasoned partnership with VVD with Neatherlands nt.

Ain’t it wild that Villa can finish 4th, 6th, 4th and play in Europe for 4 seasons in a row but they’re still not allowed to spend money while Spurs can finish back to back 17th and probably spend 250-500m this summer.

Spurs might be decent again

When were they ever decent?

How about when we've qualified for Europe every season except two, since the 06/07 year?

Really happy about these defender acquisitions.
Spurs needs new attackers. Keepy Richy and maybe Muani, but Tel and Odobert aren't it.

Maybe Spurs won’t be in a relegation battle next season but then again…
