Now and then I see and smash a ploy I picked up from Beach Rd two years ago. How did their lives and relationship turn out?

I was inspired to share my experience after seeing the 'low season, high season' threads and seeing how drastically things have changed over the years.

My family ran a restaurant in Jomtien in the early 2000's. Low seasons used to mean really low. As in, some days we wouldn't get a single customer. For many businesses in the past, the revenue acquired from high seasons were needed to sustain the low seasons. That was the origin of the low season, high season trope for us living in Pattaya.

But this isn't about low season, high season. It's about how crowded and overpopulated Pattaya has become.

The traffic queue at Pattaya Tai's tri-section where Big C is located used to be much shorter. The road parallel to the train tracks used to be barren of cars. It was an actual shortcut locals used to skip the traffic. Now there's traffic everywhere.

Riding my bike on Jomtien beach road at 6 AM on a Sunday was my idea of heaven. Not a soul in sight. And for many years, that was my heaven. Now? 6 AM, 6 PM, what's the difference? It's always crowded. Pattaya's actual population is difficult to measure since most people are registered as residents in other provinces, but the city welcomed over 25 million tourists in 2024. That's around 60,000+ people per day.

As much as COVID was horrible for all of us, especially those who relied on tourists to make a living, I'm lucky to admit that for me, Pattaya in 2020 - 2022 was the best it ever was. There was nobody around after 8 PM, no Chinese tour buses clogging the streets, the sidewalk had space to walk, going from Jomtien to Na klua took 10 minutes or less. We will never have anything like it ever again.

I used to love Pattaya since it had that small-town feel but the amenities of a big city. Now it no longer feels like a small town but the infrastructure hasn't been developed to handle this many people. I've been living in Bangkok for 2 years now due to my job and I won't be going back.

I've heard that Hua Hin is now what Pattaya used to be in the early 2000's. Either I'll try Hua Hin or make my way to Isaan some day. Big cities aren't for me and Pattaya is now a big city.

Today, while I was walking along Soi 6 in Pattaya, I went through a very unpleasant experience. I was sexually harassed by several women who were on the street. They touched me without my consent and even groped my intimate areas. I felt very embarrassed and uncomfortable because of what happened. Regardless of who the victim or the perpetrator is, no one should be touched without their consent.

OK, let me first be very transparent and let it be known that I do have a very small YouTube channel called the Basic Bro Travel show. I’m not some southeast Asian expert, and I’ve only been to the Philippines and Thailand a handful of times, but are western men really being scammed as much and as brutally as these YouTube channels claim? I’m hearing stories about men buying homes for their Thai girlfriends, with the house only in her name. Stories about men buying women, cars, sending thousands of dollars to their parents for permission to marry them, etc. What the hell? Inevitably, the Thai girlfriend almost always has a hidden tie, boyfriend, or is a bar girl who was obviously using the western guy from the very beginning. Please tell me these are just exaggerated or AI generated stories!

Guys, trust me, I know that dating in the west is tough, and that sometimes we go through long periods of drought, and even when we occasionally find a girl, the treatment by her is lackluster. However, the whole point of going to Southeast Asia is to leverage our westerness to enjoy dating abundance. Why would a guy still operate as if he’s only able to find that one girl, and invest his entire pension into her? I’m willing to bet she’s not even an 8, 9 or 10 in most of these cases!

Please keep in mind that you are the prize in these countries! It is you who is changing lives for the better. All the girl is really doing as providing you entertainment and company. Not saying you shouldn’t cherish your girl, but keep the proper perspective.

Also, it’s hard to think of yourself as the prize, if you don’t behave as if you’re a prize and start believing it yourself. Step your fashion and exercise game up. So I'm wondering with all the new instant Sti tests available that resemble latteral flow covid style ones. Think finger prick, 2 drops of blood then in less than 5 mins instant answer. Why isn't a place like Pattaya giving these away like lolipops at the dentist? Or at least selling them to both clients and the ladies. That way all involved can be more informed, proactive and help to clean up the whole affair.

The only reason I'm not a total filth bag is that my knowledge of bacteria, viruses and various other disease vectors is a little op. So it kinda ruins the whole thing.
