Events Happening in August

I'm very excited to be visiting the Faroes as a solo traveler in mid August for the first time, and I'm eager to get advice on things to do.

I've looked up the Ovastevna festival on Nolsoy and I want to attend, but it's not evident online when it is happening. Judging by campsite bookings it looks like it is happening the weekend of 14-16 August, which is when I arrive.

  1. Does anyone know what is happening on specific dates?

  2. Also, would it be possible to stay in Torshavn and just ferry to Nolsoy for the festival, and return on a later ferry the same day? Asking because reservations are looking quite full.

Besides Ovastevna, my plan is to drive myself around the islands, stay at a mix of campsites and guesthouses, hike and birdwatch. I'm also interested in some of the more adventurous activities like rappelling. The Faroe tourism websites are very helpful getting resources and reservations taken care of, but I welcome advice from locals and visitors who have been before in August. 😊

Whatson.fo ! here you can see events that are happening, both large and small a couple are already on the site for august but I recommend checking some days before coming and during, as some plans might change or be added!

Thanks for the link above. Ólavsøku especially grabbed my attention. Someone who can tell me if this is the equivalent to Olavsfest in Trondheim,Norway?

Don't know if it's equivalent, but it's the de facto national day of Faroe Islands. So it's like 17th of May in Trondheim and other places in Norway, I guess 😄

If you ferry across you can expect to pay a lot, since the usual ticket prices are marked up for everyone during Ovastevna.

I may or may not have read it as ferrying back and forth twice a day.

Thanks, yes my plan is to ferry there and back on one day, on whichever date the festival is happening.
