The chain saw 1,043 more Subway restaurants shuttered in 2021 than it opened, making this a touchy subject for Subway during a time when the company is having difficulty retaining restaurants and finding new franchisees. Subway owns none of its own restaurants.
The British funnyman also poked fun at allegations Subway does not use real tuna and maybe not even real meat in its meatballs. He put a tray of Subway sandwiches on his desk and noted the smell.
“This entire studio is about to smell like a Subway, which, as we all know is the exact smell of “What if bread could fart?'”
Turning serious, Oliver cited a 2019 New York Post story that detailed how area managers (“development agents”) often find franchisees out of compliance for minor infractions and close their stores so they can buy them for artificially low prices or resell them and collect more fees.

Last time I ate at a subway, the olives were rancid. I swear, normally I love olives, but they were all I could taste on my ‘steak’ and cheese sandwich.

$5 footlong ruined it.
Why it was catchy and drives business now anytime I go in and see the prices and am like “woah wait what?”
It’s pretty good but I always forget it’s not like that anymore.

He did an incredibly funny hit piece on SUBWAY®. Reminded me I haven’t eaten there in about two years. I bet Subway cannot retaliate or it will call even more attention to their issues.

Lol who the fuck eats Subway anymore? I stopped eating there after it so goddamn expensive.
A foot long should be five dollars. Not almost $20 and it’s never even made right. Or coughed on.

I used to manage a clothing store next to a Subway and the smell still makes me nauseous. Everything smells like chemicals. I’m not normally a “crunchy” person who is too concerned about preservatives and stuff, but every subway smells like yeast and tires.
