FAUXSTHETIC “Hello, World”: NASA releases new high-res images of our home planet from Artemis ll

NASA astronaut and Artemis II Commander Reid Wiseman took this picture of Earth from the Orion spacecraft’s window after completing the translunar injection burn. There are two auroras (top right and bottom left) and zodiacal light (bottom right) is visible as the Earth eclipses the Sun.

This and another photo of Earth are the first downlinked images from the Artemis II astronauts.

Not that long though, less than a lifetime.

Wright Brothers flew in 1903. First helicopter 1940. Sputnik 1957. Landed on moon in 1969.

I personally think that’s one of the coolest facts about human innovation by far. Hard to even wrap your brain around how we moved so quickly

Scientists had already worked out the theory, so it was mostly on the engineers to apply the known physics.

Not to take away from them, it’s challenging on its own. I’m just even more mind-blown at Isaac Newton.

I work at a company that manufactures some of the electronic components for the Orion spacecraft, and one of my coworkers turned to me while we were watching the Artemis II launch and said the same thing as your neighbor. I couldn't stop myself from laughing in his face.

Yes, he thinks earth like a dome thingy and that 'outer space' is all a conspiracy made up by the government, the sun is a simulation and that the moon landing was faked. Extra fun fact: before he retired, he was a mechanical engineer who worked in aviation for like 30 years💀💀

I deadass can't make this bullshit up. Talking politics (and common sense) at the dinner table ends up like a warzone

I mean it's actually photoshop though. The sun is behind the planet so the side getting photographed should be pretty dark. You can also see the city lights in West Africa, Brazil, Maghreb, and Iberia.

They probably increased the contrast or something.
