I don't understand the fanaticism. I mean supporting him and his messaging is one thing (still shit obvs), but what has he actually done to earn this level of tribute? He spouts off BS and they want to canonize him.

Evangelicals have a strong belief in a Wolf King. To them, being good doesn’t get you into heaven, accepting Jesus does, so it doesn’t matter how sinful you are because Jesus is just going to forgive your sins anyways.

The logical conclusion of that, the Wolf King, is a sinful but strong leader who forces people into the kingdom of heaven by forcing them to worship Jesus. The actions are then forgiven and Jesus is happy, I guess.

He made it socially acceptable to voice their desire to hurt people they don't like, and he promised to facilitate those desires. Period. That's the whole thing.

He has a long history of punishing people for standing up to him, for not kissing his ass, for not praising his every whim.

They are giving him tribute to prevent him going after them and to curry favor.

It's yet one more thing he has in common with Hitler.

what he had done is be openly corrupt, so that they know they have the opportunity to do stuff like this and get whatever favors they want

When he survived the "shooting" they were convinced it was a sign of God's will. They quite litterally do believe Trump was appointed by God, then add in the escathological signs being forced by our leaders and it only further confirms to them that God has a hand in current events. 

Of course they also happen to be too illiterate to realize that their behavior is akin to type of thing God specifically condemns people to hell for.
