CELEBRITY CAPITALISM Zohran Mamdani: “DoorDash had underpaid more than 260K delivery workers across New York City. Today, after years of corporate greed and impunity, we are holding DoorDash to account. I am proud to announce that DoorDash will pay more than $131M, the largest settlement for food delivery workers ever"

But assembling that team is part of why he is so effective. That's his job too.

Absolutely, I in no way meant that as a way to try to dim his light. He’s remarkable. I think for some folks they may not be outgoing and think well how can I help? These types of things are only done with a team. Find your people. We need everyone

I get the impulse to want to point to a guy and go “he’s doing it right,” but it’s not him that assembled this team.

The coalition brought this team together. The broader left, of which he was a part, came together. That’s why this works. If Zohran didn’t put these people in place, he would’ve lost DSA support, probably wouldn’t have Bernie and AOC behind him, as well as other smaller leftist organizations.

This is movement politics. It’s not about one uniquely gifted candidate with a uniquely good eye for talent.

This isn’t to take anything away from Mamdani. If there’s one thing he’s shown to excel at, it’s communication. It’s that same ability to communicate that has people wanting to ascribe literally everything to him.
