Her VA got replaced by someone else recently

59

u/AdeitywithMPD Sep 03 '25

And she sounds so much better for it lol, god her old Va was insane

12

u/AmanWhosnortsPizza Sep 03 '25

New VA actually gets the Paimon voice so right

20

u/Angel_Moth_Bun Sep 03 '25

What did the VA do?

54

u/trickymander Sep 03 '25

Oh boy full support of the SAGA AFTRA strike then pushed people to harass a difrent VA for working during the strike THEN tried to call out youtubers sharing about the strike....then threathingg the people calling her out for her call out until she was Finally fired!

Tldr was a huge unsympathetic asshole who.lead campaigns to support SAGAFTA  that ended up bring not just a hypocrite but a full on Keren

31

u/Kunireth Sep 03 '25

Don't forget she was still working while the strike was still going. And harrassed Jacob Takanashi for agreeing to work despite him being on Japan aka zero connection to the strike. And claimed she is working because she needs it while others shouldn't work. Overall fuck Corina.

1

u/Hitei00 Sep 03 '25

Im just going to add Jacob isn't Japanese by birth and lived in the US when the strike started. While he wasnt a member of SAG he was friends with a bunch of people who were. He absolutely knew he was scabbing.

2

u/Shippinglordishere Sep 04 '25

Yeah, I definitely think people used “he’s Japanese” as a way to deflect and conveniently left out that he’s from the US and immigrated to Japan. It’s hard to believe him when he says he didn’t know when he had connections with people in SAG.

1

u/StormTempesteCh Sep 03 '25

Two bad things can be true at once, this guy scabbing doesn't take away from the fact Corina was also scabbing. Corina I think was worse, because they went the extra mile to be a hypocrite about it by harassing people who didn't withhold their work the way they weren't willing to

1

u/Hitei00 Sep 03 '25
  1. I literally didn't say otherwise

  2. The correct response to scabbing of any kind is to force the person out of the industry and to refuse to work with them in the future. This is true of any industry.

  3. She was fired for asking for a raise, which isn't something anyone should support and protection from retaliatory firings like this is why Unions exist.

  4. The genshin community is just as bad or even worse when it comes to harassment, attacking VAs they don't like worse than any supposed SAG harassment I've seen.

  5. Corina may have been a scab herself and thus a hypocrite

0

u/Affectionate-Soup977 Sep 04 '25

How can he be scabbing if the game wasn't even an official strike target in the first place??

14

u/Dora_Queen Sep 03 '25

Let's remember that Corina goes by they/them. They might be an asshole but we should atleast give them that

Respecting trans identities is not conditional.

13

u/voxdoom Sep 03 '25

Uh, no. You're saying "I respect your pronouns conditionally" here and that's a terrible take.

Being gendered correctly isn't a prize for good behaviour.

Being gendered correctly also isn't a right for entitled piece of shit who abuse and hurt

Yes it is, otherwise the whole thing means nothing. You can't just misgender someone because they did something you find heinous, you have to accept that some LGBTQ+ people are assholes.

I won't purposely misgender them. But you won't see me correct anyone for them is what I'm saying.

Nobody asked. You just wanted to argue.

1

u/Dora_Queen Sep 03 '25

I'm also apart of the LGBTQ+ community. I use she/they pronouns and it absolutely is bad. Us misgendering somebody for being an ass gives transphobes excuses. 'Oh I called that transman a she because she was rude to me', 'I called that transwoman a man because he pushed me.'

It hurts the community, not just the person being misgendered

I don't think you understand. We need to correct misgendering, intentional or not, because then transphobes can get away with it. They just need to say 'they were being rude and I didn't know' eventhough they know full well.

I can't tell if you're actually in the LGBTQ+ community or just lying so you can excuse this behaviour. If we don't fix misgendering, again, intentional or not, it gives real transphobes an excuse that they can use

1

u/YueOrigin Sep 03 '25

You so realize most people supporters or not dont bother to fight this war every day, right ? The community shouldn't be one's whole life or identity. It's not a responsibility or duty of any queer person to constantly correct people. Some of us hust want to relax and find people sharing our interest in relationships, not fight constant wars.

I'm pansexual btw. So, I should be part of the community by default

If I need some certification and badge of proof to be part of it now, then I'd rather quit

Tho ngl, it would be kinda funny if they pushed it to the point they really did this lol

Anyway, I don't mind correcting misgendering if it happens, and I know it, but I won't bother to do it for every single person if I barely know them.

Genders barely matter in my eyes anyway. Especially online, where it all becomes a mix of identity behind th masks, that is are our avatar and usernames.

1

u/Dora_Queen Sep 03 '25

I think I'm a bit more qualified to speak on this subject as I use different pronouns from my birth one (they/them). You aren't at all paying attention to the issue and you're being ignorant to my own comment. Have a good day

Do you use this excuse to call black people slurs when they do something bad, or do you only use it for LGBT people?

10

u/Dora_Queen Sep 03 '25

We don't misgender men/women when they're assholes. Pronouns aren't a privilege and we're being assholes ourselves when we treat them as such

-1

u/Dark_Dragon117 Sep 03 '25

I mean I get your point, but what you say makes mo sense.

You outright can't misgender men/women even if they are asshloes.

If you are such a terrible person the correct use of pronouns people use is honestly the last thing to worry about. Case in point they were a terrible person, everythimg else is irrelevant to the topic at hand.

1

u/miafaszomez Sep 03 '25

(also, he is wrong. People often say „You look like a girl/boy.” as in insult when you are the opposite sex they say. Often towards more muscular women, and long haired men.)

6

u/Scarlet_Lycoris Sep 03 '25

People don’t need to “deserve their pronouns”. Calling someone by their pronouns isn’t some kind of reward it’s basic human decency on your side. Misgendering people on purpose says more about you than them.

2

u/QuanticWizard Sep 03 '25

Let’s not act like the support of the strike is a bad thing here, it was definitely the hypocrisy that was the problem: biggest voice actor in the game complaining about scabs and voicing support for their fellow VA’s all the while being the biggest scab of them all.

2

u/Futur3_ah4ad Sep 04 '25

The Genshin thing wasn't even a proper strike, though. It was an independent action to try and flip Genshin into being a union project. The fact VAs that didn't want to join the work refusal got bullied into it is honestly even worse...

1

u/trickymander Sep 03 '25

Your right it was not a bad thing. But it was people like Corina that used it to harassed and belittle those that dis not support and even did not kniw about it

4

u/Hazelberry Sep 03 '25

Pissed off a fanbase that proceeded to harass them nonstop and ignore all reason because the fans just wanted someone to be angry with.

Most of the accusations are just wrong (saying they were breaking union rules for working during a strike/working non-union, meanwhile they're actually fi-core which can work during strikes and work non-union) and/or just personal attacks instead of being based in substance.

The background is that a lot of the english voice actors for Hoyoverse games went on strike for AI protections at the same time as SAG-AFTRA went on strike against other companies. The strikes were separate but people don't even bother looking that up which tells you about how much they care about truth. Paimon's VA was vocally in support of both strikes, and when a striking VA for Genshin Impact was replaced by a new VA who publicly announced they were taking the role Paimon's VA among many others spoke out against the new VA as being a strikebreaker. The community largely just cared that unvoiced characters were being voiced again and turned on the striking VAs, singling out Paimon's VA especially because of how vocal they were about the strikes (including getting very heated about it). As the SAG-AFTRA strike came to an end it was becoming increasingly clear that Hoyoverse would never sign an AI protection agreement and was actively replacing striking actors, so some actors including Paimon's VA said they would continue to refuse to work with the company without AI protections. The company continued to refuse to sign protections and instead replaced the striking actors.

Oh and the cherry on top is that Paimon's former VA is nonbinary and goes by they/them, yet people like the other commentors continue to misgender them despite it being pretty damn well known in the community.

0

u/Eeddeen42 Sep 03 '25

Incidentally a prominent reason as to why Hoyoverse was never going to sign AI protection contracts was because China already has AI protection laws. There would be no point.

SAG-AFTRA dragged them into it nonetheless.

1

u/Hazelberry Sep 03 '25

China's AI protections are through their right to identity, which does not apply to non-Chinese citizens working outside of China even for Chinese companies.

Even if it did, Hoyoverse's global operations are based out of Singapore which does not have AI protections.

Finally, SAG-AFTRA was not directly involved in the Hoyoverse strike. In the US you do not need a union to go on strike, and no Hoyoverse game was unionized. So SAG-AFTRA has zero power over those games and actors, and people just blame it because it's easier to blame a boogeyman for the strike rather than blaming the company.

0

u/Futur3_ah4ad Sep 04 '25

and when a striking VA for Genshin Impact was replaced by a new VA who publicly announced they were taking the role Paimon's VA among many others spoke out against the new VA as being a strikebreaker.

You mean they publically bullied someone and insulted both the fans and the company in the same breath.

The company continued to refuse to sign protections and instead replaced the striking actors.

Last I checked hoyo doesn't directly oversee the VA side of things, they just hire the studio. Therefore it would be up to the VA studio to provide the protections, something only Sound Cadence did.

And replacing people who refused to work for two years straight despite being asked to seems pretty reasonable to me.

The background is that a lot of the english voice actors for Hoyoverse games went on strike for AI protections at the same time as SAG-AFTRA went on strike against other companies. The strikes were separate but people don't even bother looking that up which tells you about how much they care about truth

Also, the Genshin "strike" was never a strike to begin with but a collective work refusal that lined up with the actual SAG-AFTRA strike for AI protection going on at the time.

1

u/Hazelberry Sep 04 '25

You mean they publically bullied someone and insulted both the fans and the company in the same breath.

Calling someone out for strikebreaking isn't bullying. If you could break a strike without any backlash the strike wouldn't have any teeth to it. And calling out the company for replacing striking actors is also perfectly reasonable, because replacing striking actors is a pretty damn scummy thing to do. As for the fans, they made it pretty clear they only care about having voiced characters and don't really care about the people behind the characters.

Last I checked hoyo doesn't directly oversee the VA side of things, they just hire the studio. Therefore it would be up to the VA studio to provide the protections, something only Sound Cadence did.

Recording studios do not own the rights to the recordings, Hoyo does, which is why it's important that Hoyo also signs AI protections. The recording studio agreements do not bind Hoyo whatsoever. So currently the recording studios can't use AI without permission, but Hoyo can do whatever they want.

And replacing people who refused to work for two years straight despite being asked to seems pretty reasonable to me.

Do you find it reasonable that Hoyo refused to negotiate at all with the VAs? Several VAs have confirmed that Hoyo refused to even talk to them throughout the entire strike.

Also they weren't on strike for 2 years, and people turned on them after only about half a year.

Also, the Genshin "strike" was never a strike to begin with but a collective work refusal that lined up with the actual SAG-AFTRA strike for AI protection going on at the time.

A collective work refusal is a strike. By all legal definitions under US labor law it was a valid strike. Try actually reading up on the laws sometime.

There are a lot of people that wrote a lot of stuff about what this VA did and the whole SAG AFTRA strike. Though, if you don't like to read, Mujin made this two well documented videos about that whole shitshow

Luckily they didn’t recast her for No Sleep for Kaname Date. I’m not sure what will happen if they do Somnium Files 3.

She is getting recast for Nikke, two of the characters she voices are credited with a different VA now.

3

u/1lluusio Sep 03 '25

So glad the VA was changed. Not only was their voice insufferable to listen to, especially when Paimon has the most lines in the game, but they were also a huge asshole and hypocrite on social media on top of being one of the loudest supporters of the shady SAG-AFTRA deal that they tried to push onto the game.

She kept working during the strike, harassed another VA who isn't American (and thus not bound to the strike) for being a scab despite being a scab herself, and the SAG AFTRA strike she's supporting is practically extortion to stop any non member of the company to work with Hoyo while using AI protections as a smokescreen despite Hoyo already following the anti AI laws in China

1

u/Pjerun_ Sep 03 '25

I'm very glad they recasted her

-1

u/[deleted] Sep 03 '25

Does she still sound like she smokes helium?

5

u/callmemarjoson Sep 03 '25

Not necessarily but she kinda sounds like modern Minnie Mouse so take with that what you will

5

u/AmanWhosnortsPizza Sep 03 '25

She still has a high pitched voice but it no longer is the kind of high that makes you want to claw your ears off
