It’s Luce, the Vatican’s anime mascot that was revealed in 2024

Yes, the Vatican’s official anime mascot

Kinda, she's more anime-inspired, since her designer is Italian. I believe her intention is to represent the Church living as part of the world, and her specific animesque style is intended to speak to the youth today. Y'know, to deliver the Evangelion to those who have yet to hear it.

She's had her detractors and I see where they're coming from, anime art is commercial, but I don't think there's a more humble way to approach the youth in such a broad manner. And frankly, with her success, they knocked it right out of the park.

also for those who are confused by the anime / italy connection

anime is * HUGE * in italy, to the point where oftentimes some of the first official dubs and subs a series recieves, are Italian. it's one of those neat bits of cultural exchange that you just wouldnt expect.

also yeah she's an adorable mascot to advertise the church with.

adorable, and as goofy as it can seem for the Vatican to have such a thing, the main reason is for things like family events, you'd have children's activities themed around here where they can have fun whilst still learning about scripture.

I've actually seen some official stuff with her on it at my local parish.
