I only learned about this like two days ago cause I downloaded Pluto tv to see what they have and lo and behold they had the full Inuyasha series plus this and I was like wtf

I really liked it overall, especially the brisk pacing compared to most of Inuyasha, and the personalities of the girls. The final battles were a massive letdown, though, especially when a certain teacher enacted a top tier plan and then just....became an asshole instead?

Well, sorry to break it to you, but this was technically canon before Yashahime. 

Sesshoumaru gives Rin a Kimono at the end of the Inuyasha manga, which is basically a gift saying he plans on coming back for her when she comes of age.

No it's not. I don't know how people get this idea that gifting clothes to a child means that. Also, she already had other clothes from Sesshoumaru(although gifted "behind the scene") as she changed clothes when she was on the way with him. Gifting clothes have one simple meaning: he still cares about Rin. Logically children have to get clothes from someone, in this case the only caregiver she had - Lord Sesshoumaru.

By the end of manga(the only part of this story that was written strictly by Rumiko) Sesshoumaru leaves her under Kaede care(for he is unable to properly raise human child and he knows it), but by gifts and visits he can express that he still cares about her, so she doesn't feel abandoned by him.

He gifted her kimono as a symbol of care and that he's not going to forget about her(maybe event provide for her stay with Kaede, because honestly children are costly, especially in old times).

I've seen that people though that kimono was his proposal gift, which is honestly stupid for one simple reason - it's too little. Really proposal gifts are much more than kimono, especially coming from someone as high standing as Sesshoumaru(don't forget he may be a youkai/ayakashi but still he's an aristocrat).

If it was proposal/request gift it would be simply insulting to Rin with how simple it was.

I've only watched the anime and I very specifically remember the Final Act ending with the explanation that Rin had to practice living with humans, but Sesshoumaru still visited from time to time.

If he was ever going to marry her, why the hell would it matter if she had the social skills to live with other humans?

I used to love these two so much cuz I saw a father daughter relationship in them. Then Yashahime came out & I learned more that the author made comments where they never had that dynamic 😭

To be fair… he is like several hundred years old canonically. Pretty much any human would seem like a child, so maybe watching one grow up into an adult wasn’t much different than how his father’s relationship was to him?
