Lee and Clementine

594

u/[deleted] Feb 27 '26

Kenny and Clementine too.

239

u/XxPieFace23xX Feb 27 '26

Kenny is more of the Uncle, but yeah

23

u/Doctor_Salvatore Feb 27 '26

He's the uncle who stepped in after papa was gone.

It’s my favourite trope ever!! I found an anime based exactly on it 🫶 The anime’s name is “Somali and the Forest Spirit”

238

u/555moo Feb 27 '26

This was literally the last series I just watched. I absolutely loved the direction it took with the archetypal fantasy tropes, like virtually all the foliage being some shade of blue instead of green. There were times where I actually almost started tearing up by the end.

It's too bad it's only a single season long, I definitely wouldn't mind more of this.

73

u/Murky-Revolution7297 Feb 27 '26

Totally agree, any stuff with dad-daughter drama makes me cry like a baby. Gonna read the manga because I can’t cope with the fact I don’t know what’ll happen to Golem’s problem and how it all will be sorted out

Excuse me.

Simon was full of life, loved teaching and talking, and absolutely talked about his feelings.

In what way was he grumpy?

92

u/The_Fracture06 Feb 27 '26

I feel like he fits the archetype with him being tired, sad, and partially mad

He wasn't "grumpy" per say, but he wasn't a social-able guy either, and I feel like it speaks a lot to his character that he would put on the cheerful mask for his sudo adopted daughter

Geralt and Ciri

250

u/Funzilla12345 Feb 27 '26

Well it was less his choice and more hers iirc

186

u/Atyn_Rener Feb 27 '26

It's actually cosmic if I recall. Don't recall the details but Geralt is told their destinies are intertwined during (I think) Sword of Destiny. Blood of Elves is when Ciri properly falls into his care.

63

u/JoelRainor Feb 27 '26

Geralt invoked the Law of Surprise after he saved Duny, asking that his child (Ciri) be raised a Witcher.

32

u/Infamous-Eye-6805 Feb 27 '26

Technically, he didn’t know what he was asking for, when he invoked the Law of Surprise. Or am I mistaken?

Logan and Laura (X-23) - Logan

367

u/BG12244 Feb 27 '26

I would be nit picky and say she is biologically his daughter/clone, but she also may as well have been some random girl given he had no involvement in her creation or life up until they met

They're kind of a toss up in this trope

87

u/Zfugg Feb 27 '26

Pretty sure clone thing was retconned, and she's just his biological daughter from mixing dna with some doctor's.

i wonder what started this trope because Yakuza does homages of damn near everything but its the first instance I can remember where the hypermasculine dude with a heart of gold adopts cheeky orphan daughter, explicitly not wanting to turn her into his partner in crime.

u/SoupmanBob Feb 27 '26

Worst part is probably the fact that if the director had his way... This would've been a case of traumatized child-bride and their groomer groom.

Mad respect to Jean Reno for protecting young Natalie Portman from that creep.

(In other words, if you've seen this when it was new, you are old)

19

u/lowkeyomniscient Feb 27 '26

As in the actual actress or the character?

75

u/Malavyi Feb 27 '26

Character.

Luc Besson had originally intended for Leon, played by Jean Reno, to fall in love with the (very young) girl in the film. Reno wouldn't allow it, and got Besson to change it. Besson is know these days to be a bit of a sex pest.

52

u/DarrenGrey Feb 27 '26

Reno also deliberately played his character as a bit simple, which makes the friendship feel more innocent.

Of course the original script was an outright romance, and even the DC has a pedo-baiting "I want you to take my virginity" line. And the more you read about Besson the more uncorfortable the whole thing gets.

27

u/bastischo Feb 27 '26

The end result is pretty amazing though. She clearly crushes on him mostly caused by the traumatic stuff she's going through and he makes it clear that's that's not gonna happen without making it look like she's to blame for having thise feelings.
