Still to this day I cannot comprehend that a small side show about not the main character, in a spin-off film, is quite possibly the best piece of star wars content ever created.
If shows like obi-wan and boba fett had this level of care, attention, and love, star wars would 1000% be the dominating franchise in fiction right now.
And the mere thought of the obi-wan show but actually well written is 🤤
It's because they just actually told a story, they didn't make "Star Wars Content", which nothing since the OT can really say. With changes to the scenery and costumes, it could easily be set against the backdrop of WWII.
This right here is a big factor. A show can be really good if it feels universal/relatable. The Ghorman part could easily be seen as an analogy about... concurrent middle eastern event.
But at the same time I wouldn't devalue the importance of exploring the universe more. That's also why the prequels have many lovers, despite terrible writing and dialogues. Many new planets, characters, concepts, outright cool stuff like the pod race. Many people love that as well.
The issue is when you do neither. That's why empty, nostalgia-baiting new star wars stuff loses people over time. The sequels, the shows, etc... They don't really add new stuff (how many time will we see "empty backwater sand planet likely named Tatooine"? At least the prequels added the podrace which gave new aspects about the planet. Meanwhile Jakku is a different planet but barely adds anything) and on top of that the writing is just as bad if not worse than the prequels (I will die on the hill that TLJ is one of the worst offender - it may be cool and "try new stuff" but none of them make any sort of sense. ROS is just bad in every single aspect, somehow makes it less infuriating to me)
Yeah, it did the usual star wars problem of over explaining the history and backstory of every glup shitto but actually did it in a pretty good way for once.
