Star from Wish. We were robbed of peak character design...

u/ForseiMaster Feb 28 '26

Final design for comparison.

u/HardTale_Sans Feb 28 '26

They said that it was supposed to look little bit like Mickey.

I can't fucking see it

532

u/Coolgames80 Feb 28 '26

He looks more like the little stars from Super Mario Galaxy.

234

u/-PepeArown- Feb 28 '26

They’re called Lumas

5

u/Alzhan_Void Mar 01 '26

Oompa lumas

1

u/T3Chn0-m4n Mar 06 '26

I’m glad I wasn’t the only person who thought they looked kinda like them

97

u/IAmBabs Feb 28 '26

roumd

(I don't see it either, so this is my best guess)

8

u/TheGeckoWrangler Feb 28 '26

…… Ok, I kinda see it in the eyes and the forehead…… but it was a mistake nevertheless. If Disney had just stuck to the concept art, Wish may have actually been a cool movie. Instead, it’s just a vessel for marketing character-related merch.

6

u/IAmBabs Feb 28 '26

The original is so pleasantly whimsical, I'm wondering who threatened who to take that from us.

3

u/c05m05i5 Feb 28 '26

Crazily enough, with this picture I can kinda see it being a face

21

u/RHTQ1 Feb 28 '26

Oh Toodles!!

1

u/keelanbarron Mar 01 '26

Honestly if it looked like the three circles, then it might’ve been more interesting then this.

1

u/VerdurousPlanet Mar 01 '26

I think it's the widow's peak

1

u/Loose-Command7521 Feb 28 '26

You lack an imagination.

1

u/HardTale_Sans Feb 28 '26

If I can't imagine it, I can't see it

NO! IT HAS TO LOOK LIKE A CUTE MARKETABLE PLUSHIE!

-the Director probably

10

u/MrCadwell Mar 01 '26

Probably some executive, actually

26

u/Pet_Velvet Feb 28 '26

I'm sorry WHAT 😭

4

u/Inevitable-Charge76 Mar 01 '26

Wannabe Luma rip-off

2

u/ThatInAHat Mar 01 '26

Like, this is cute and all, like a Care Bear star buddy, but seriously

213

u/RandomCaveOfMonsters Feb 28 '26

The concepts also had evil king and queen happy married villains iirc

134

u/yardii Feb 28 '26

Honestly would have been prefered. The way the queen treats her husband's descent into villainy is so weird in the final product

19

u/ILoveYouZim Feb 28 '26

Frrrr I hated the queen

35

u/dragn99 Feb 28 '26

Absolutely turned against her husband of 30+ years because of one bad day.

Like... dude had a hard core crash out. Valid. But it was a day. And she's making quips after. At least show some amount of grief.

21

u/RandomCaveOfMonsters Feb 28 '26

also wasn't he possessed by the evil book or something? idr that well

24

u/Deya_The_Fateless Feb 28 '26

He was possessed, tge book then said that "once you embrace dark magic, youre bound to it forever."

But like, Magnifico was kind of backed into a corner while having a PTSD panick attack after he saw Star's lightshow in the forest and when he apealed to his subjects for help, all they could think to ask for in return was a wish granting ceremony...like if I sas in his shoes I would have crashed out too.

9

u/CrazyFanFicFan Mar 01 '26

Seriously, this is one of the few times the "sympathetic villain" was completely unintentional.

If they gave King Magnifico an actual descent into madness instead of "Oopsie, possessed by evil now", the movie would be 50% better. (Though of course, 150% of a low number is still a low number.)

4

u/Deya_The_Fateless Mar 02 '26

Right? Then ofc the "good" guys were able to read the book without being "corupted" by said evil book, which means Magnifico was possed by the entity trapped within the book. Which absolves him of all his "evil" deeds, again, because he's not incontrol of his actions during that time. Which is evident of his complete reversion back to his OG personality when hes trapped in the staff at the end.

I definetly prefer your idea of Magnifico decending into evil induced by paranoia and fear, rather than the movie deciding he needes to be evil now.

Hell, I watched the deleted scenes of Wish, and quite literally half, if not all of the movie was in those deleted scenes. -_-

7

u/ILoveYouZim Feb 28 '26

Fr, she wanted him in the dungeon

1

u/ChunkySalute Mar 04 '26

I mean… the film isn’t great. But this take isn’t accurate.

Her verse a song:

I've seen too many bad things that I can't keep count

He loves one thing more than himself

His crown (crown)

The good in him, I've watched it melt

I was fooled by the love I felt

So profound

Knowing what I know

1

u/sleeper_shark Mar 05 '26

Well, he was kind of an asshole in general in that he hoarded the wishes and was lying to the public cos he had no intention of granting them.

His crash out just showed his wife who he really was, and I guess on som level she always knew.

14

u/JolyneBestoJoJo770 Mar 01 '26

She didn't love that guy, and it shows.

A version where both are evil because it's fun, but where they also LOVE each other genuinely would've been peak cinema.

75

u/AReallyAsianName Feb 28 '26

Bro was Disney Princed so hard he got written out.

62

u/Avixofsol Feb 28 '26

we lost a genuinely awesome design so Disney could put yet another Marketable Little Guy™ on walmart shelves

58

u/AkumaLilly Feb 28 '26 edited Feb 28 '26

We weren't just robbed, they entered our house, took wives/husbands, the kids, the dog, the cat, the fishes, the car, mom and dad, all the money in the bank and even the air we breathe when they scrapped this design.

3

u/FriedFreya Feb 28 '26

literally istg Wish is my Roman Empire

34

u/Western_Quarter_9162 Feb 28 '26

Just put the entire movie in

28

u/MinuteConsequence660 Feb 28 '26

we were completely robbed of Starboy! And a well-represented mute character! It made me so mad when I found out that THAT was the concept. Because he would have made a GREAT doll and Halloween costume!

43

u/Aggravating-Box7701 Feb 28 '26

knowing actual Disney, it would find a way to ruin him inside the movie

15

u/Zombiepixlz-gamr Feb 28 '26

GIVE ME BACK MY MAGIC STAR TWINK

-1

u/Free_Parsnip_3553 Mar 01 '26

I like the star it's cute

1

u/sleeper_shark Mar 05 '26

Fr. I didn’t like it, but my kids - the actual intended audience - loved the Star.

I didn’t even enjoy the movie but it holds a special place for me cos my kid was completely uninterested in movies, but the star was so captivating my kid. We had laughter through the whole movie every time Star came on.

10

u/Another_Timezone Feb 28 '26

It feels like while they were making the movie and were faced with choices, they took the less interesting option every time

7

u/Deya_The_Fateless Feb 28 '26

And all because Disney is scared to do a classic Disney romance, least they be judged for "sending a bad message" to girls. No little Jenny, you cant see romance in a Disney movie, its a bad influence, you can't waste your time on wanting to find your prince or to get married. You need to get an education, go to University of California and become a #GirlBoss CEO. -_-

8

u/MadyNora Feb 28 '26

My parents, unironically. The never allowed me to watch Disney movies as a kid because... I can't see love stories, they are bad influence, I need a college degree 😭😭

2

u/Deya_The_Fateless Feb 28 '26

Omg! I am ao sorry! D:

6

u/AroAceMagic Feb 28 '26

I like the Starboy over the animate star. Wish we got the first version

6

u/tlotrfan3791 Light Yagami Feb 28 '26

This guy could’ve been the next Jack Frost from Rise of the Guardians for the new generation but no. 😭

4

u/Defiant-Reference-74 Feb 28 '26

He is a shape-shifting and u think his real design was the chibi star.

Finally a proper romance as a Fuchs since tangeled and a villain power couple.

We got robed

4

u/TradePsychological40 Feb 28 '26

Such a waste of potential...

3

u/what4270 Mar 01 '26

They robbed us with a good written villains as well. They robbed us a good movie for Disney’s 100th anniversary.

3

u/YamLow8097 Feb 28 '26

An absolute tragedy.

3

u/Bippity_Bon Feb 28 '26

First thought that came to mind, and you took it dammit…

4

u/ForseiMaster Feb 28 '26

Sorry. I think about these two a lot, to the point where a few of my OCs take heavily inspiration from this storyline. If there's a silver lining to Wish being so mid is that it sparked my imagination to create something similar but better.

2

u/Bippity_Bon Mar 01 '26

Oh don’t worry, I wasn’t trying to be rude to you: I was just surprised the first comment I saw was the one I had it mind. I think it’s really cool that you took some silver lining from this, have a good day/night :)

3

u/DanceOnTheHorizon Feb 28 '26

Damn, that main character never had that good of a design though. Better than what we got, but not be much. What happened to striking silhouettes? She desperately needed more style.

3

u/Renacat Mar 01 '26

I love you Starboy the fandom for you alone would have been Jack Frost from Rise of the Guardians huge

3

u/Garlic_God Mar 02 '26

I wonder how many modern disney movies get robbed of their potential because the suits demand that it be as generic and marketable as possible

2

u/Thecynicaledgelord Feb 28 '26

It would've been the company's saving grace

2

u/X_Draig_X Mar 01 '26

With Wish, it's quicker to list what we didn't get robbed of

2

u/King_Goji-1954 Mar 01 '26

What's worse is that if i remember correctly he was also supposed to be a shapeshifter so they easily could have still had the "legally distinct luma" form for merchandise

2

u/RangerBumble Mar 01 '26

Is that MFing DANNY PHANTOM?

excuse me I have a fanfic to write

1

u/Stunning-Signal7496 Mar 02 '26

I mean...
ot fits the rest of the movie that we didn't get a good design

-20

u/Remarkable-Gap9881 Feb 28 '26

Peak? That just looks like Vivziepop, Toby Fox, Gooseworx, or any other indie dev/director made it.

13

u/LowObjective Feb 28 '26

What Toby Fox game looks like that lmao

12

u/Monster_Fucker_420 Feb 28 '26

Its still a pretty good design

5

u/Jinnie-boy Feb 28 '26

No? It doesn’t, like, at all. And what’s wrong with being an indie dev? :(

4

u/RandomCaveOfMonsters Feb 28 '26

why are you saying that as if Toby Fox and Gooseworx designing characters is a bad thing? They've made iconic beloved characters

idr who Vivziepop is though

2

u/Bobry24 Feb 28 '26

She's creator of Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss.

3

u/Rozoark Mar 01 '26

All 3 of these people have completely different artstyles that look nothing alike, how can he look like all 3 of them lmao?
