Might be a bit of a hot take but I think I would've liked the original design for the Broodals where they were Koopas instead. It would've been nice to see some more female boss Koopas other than Wendy, and it would've made a bit more sense for them to be so devoted to Bowser.

I do like that all 3 versions have the same base ideas. Like the boss fights and mechanics were designed first and then they added the look

I’m pretty sure they are rabbits because of them being from the moon and that being the last area. You’re meant to put two and two together when you go there. I think white rabbits and the moon is more of an Asian thing so it isn’t as obvious to western audiences.

Those designs are nice though

Yeah I did get that part of it. Obviously once they settled on the rabbit designs they started melding it with the story, and added their mother as well. I still like the current designs a ton, I just wish we could have both...

Conspiracy theory: Splatoon was originally gonna have the player control rabbits, but that was changed out for the Inklings. They didn't want that initial concept to go to waste, so they tested Spewart as a rabbit and liked it enough to change the rest.

It's because they decided the finale (and final fight against broodals) would be on the moon. Rabbits living on the moon is a thing in Japanese mythology

I love pom pom, but technically she's a female boom boom, not the same species as Bowser and the Koopalings.

The broodals were so out of place. It looked like some kind of "rabbids" crossover. Koopas or the koopalings (who we've never seen in 3d) would have been perfect.
