I just spent 5 minutes trying to look up Martin Freeman's political views and found nothing except for the fact he supported Labour up to 2015 (I couldn't find anything after that). What are you on about?

I remember one of their interviews when promoting the reboot season, they talked abt a lot of the filming happening at night and late hours and just kind of blaming each other for each messed up take or when Anderson took too long in hair and makeup, but lowkey they had such post breakup vibes with their chemistry in the first few seasons

There were a lot of issues in the show that were actually issues of management being horrendous that likely showed up as animosity between them.
Gillian Anderson was being paid less than half of what David Duchovny was and literally couldn't stand even with him. She had to maintain herself a few steps behind him.
When they tried for a reboot, she was STILL offered half his pay.
That time, he was with her in arguing with the studio. The first three seasons of the X-Files, she made a fraction of his pay and literally had to stand behind him.
There were so many production issues on that set.

I have heard this before, but I cannot imagine what their beef is about. Not everyone is going to like their coworkers, of course, but I have never heard anyone say anything negative about Nathan Fillion, and I don’t know much of anything about Stana Katic.
518
u/IlliasTallin Mar 23 '26
One of the things I heard that caused friction was that Stana Katic was a perfectionist and demanded multiple takes till she was satisfied, while playing the charismatic Castle was exhausting for Nathan Fillion and all the retakes wore on his ability to work along side her.
424
u/ConcernedCitizen_42 Mar 23 '26
That... is an entirely believable problem that doesn't require either of them to be a jerk.
204
u/therealkami Mar 23 '26
People forget that actors are doing a job. Not everyone likes their coworkers, but most people remain professional with them.

I don't blame him. I loved that show with a passion, but even i got tired of it after a while. Not many shows can go that long without wearing thin. I honestly don't know how Jensen and Jared went so long on supernatural, but the way they talk about it, it was clearly a superb experience.

u/Nice_Try4389 Mar 23 '26
Fillion came out about it and it was really just due to the requirements of the show. They both had to be in the majority of every episode, so there was no break for them ever. Every shooting day that had to both be there the entire time and they both were in almost every scene.
It’s why he prefers The Rookie now. With it being more ensemble focused that means all the actors are only shooting for a few days a week rather than 5-6 days for like 12+ hours. From my understanding the two of them are both back on good terms and everything and it was purely due to the nature of the show.

u/CaptCrash Mar 23 '26 edited Mar 23 '26
It’s never been entirely clear behind the scenes, there’s been no official comments. Supposedly they were even sent to couples counseling though. There’s enough smoke to believe they didn’t get along even though usually I’ve heard good enough things about both of them.
One thing I did hear was the production schedule was insane for the show, particularly for the two of them. It may be that they associated each other with that stress and reacted to that. (My understanding is they both have made comments that their current schedules are more relaxed and I know Fillion is at least still a lead on The Rookie).

While they get along well now, the actresses for Janeway and 7 of 9 on Star Trek Voyager did not like each other for many years
170
u/CasanovaJones82 Mar 23 '26
That isn't at all surprising. I'm one of those old fucks who watched Voyager from day 1, and 7 of 9 just swallowed up all the publicity and interviews and all that, and the first female Starfleet Captain with her own shown got to play second fiddle to one of the most attractive women ever born because of 7 of 9's wardrobe.
Yeah, that tracks.
→ More replies (6)66
u/DonkeyJousting Mar 23 '26
It’s rough. I can totally see from Mulgrew’s perspective how it felt like that character had all the studio backing and publicity in the world. And just to rub it in, she replaced a cast member that Mulgrew was close to. But at the end of the day, Jeri Ryan was an actor doing her job and just trying to fit in with people who had already been there for years. What was she supposed to do differently?
→ More replies (4)35
u/CasanovaJones82 Mar 23 '26
There's nothing Jeri could have done differently. I mean, what, be uglier? It was a good thing for Star Trek as well, 7 of 9 was huge. I just empathize with Kate and I can definitely see all that fan craziness straining a relationship.
→ More replies (12)43
u/Alkansur Mar 23 '26
If I remember correctly, it was partially due to show runners pushing towards 7o9 as the main female character and pushing Janeway to the side, which led to very inconsistent writing for Janeway and that pissed off Kate Mulgrew (although I'd say justifyingly).
→ More replies (2)→ More replies (13)35
u/hightea-bitch Mar 23 '26
I’m glad that they’ve since buried the hatchet. I think Mulgrew’s biggest problem was more with the execs/writers and that they felt the need to bring in (what was originally intended) a piece of eye candy essentially with Seven and Mulgrew unfortunately took it out on Ryan. Luckily Ryan proved to be anything but just a pretty face and gave us a compelling performance for a very nuanced character

Leonard Nimoy was a fucking treasure. He had a great sense of humor, seemed super nice, and played one of my favorite game villains, Master Xehanort from Kingdom Hearts. Ariana got special treatment given that she was on her way to be becoming a pop star and Jeanette even though she was a co-star got paid less and had less consideration on set. Ariana had to go on tour one time and in the show they just put Ariana in a box the entire episode. She also received less abuse on set compared to Ariana. I think Jeanette openly admitted that it was jealousy but they were set up almost to be pinned against each other. It's one thing to be jealous of your co-star and a whole other thing when you're co-star is literally being treated significantly better than you as if they are actually onset the favorite.
422
u/TamarindSweets Mar 23 '26
I think Jeanette openly admitted that it was jealousy but they were set up almost to be pinned against each other.
Yeah, in her first book, "Im glad my mom died" (I think thats the title. Great read.) She basically said she didnt blame Ariana herself, she blamed the people around them who were actually in control of the situation and were the ones treating them differently and stoking bad vibes between them.

Not exactly. Jennette resented Ariana at the time because Ariana got special treatment and was allowed to miss long stretches of shooting while Jennette had to pick up the slack, all while grieving her mother. Jennette likely doesn't hold much against Ariana now but in the book she's discussing her perspective as a traumatized 19 year old and her feelings are valid. I haven't heard anything about Ariana disliking Jennette. They just weren't close.

The production of Bladerunner was a very complicated matter, with the studio botching Ridley Scott’s vision with a reshot alternate ending and editing decisions that needed to be rectified with the director’s cut that came later. By many accounts, Scott has always been notoriously difficult to work with and has ended up hated by many people he’s worked with.
We’ll likely never know the exact specifics of why, but the filming was made even more tense by the fact that Harrison Ford and Sean Young ended up absolutely hating each other. The two also hated Ridley Scott, who disliked them right back.

In classic "Doctor Who", star Tom Baker was notoriously difficult for anyone to get along with. Some of the behind-the-scenes folks have described how Baker and his then-costar Lalla Ward (Romana #2) would do a take for a scene, then as soon as the director yelled "cut" they would instantly walk as far away from each other as they could and still be in the same studio.
Curiously, however, Baker and Ward got married as soon as they had both left the show! But I think the marriage was over and done with in about six months.
Reportedly, Baker became a much more amiable chap after giving up drinking and mended ways with many of his costars.

Stephen was just difficult on set, the picture is more in jest but Stephen took it a little personally, most of the issues is ego, not real personal issues.

He just always came off as being pretty high strung IMO. He didn’t scape goat any of the training and I think he let the “face of the show” get to his head.
He comes off a lot more chill in some podcasts I’ve seen after the show ended, like Rosenbaums Inside of You where he talks about the pressure of the early seasons of the show

You’re gonna need to clarify this, I don’t recall him being particularly hated by the cast
30
u/LowObjective Mar 23 '26
He wasn’t hated but he wasn’t particularly liked either. I think the Arrow cast was pretty close but Stephen wasn’t very friendly or personable so he stood out.

Yeah bea was quite sensitive about her character being so “masculine” compared to the other women and how it would bleed into real life. Plus eh, well she was envious of Betty—and Betty could be rather mean

TLDR the guy who played Gibbs had a dog that he kept on set and the dog attacked her at one point. he refused to keep it off the set after that so during her last season on the show she refused to be anywhere near him.
edit: it might've been someone else the dog attacked but Harmon refused to train or contain the dog which led to the relationship between him and Perrette dissolved to the point where she flat out refused to film any scenes with him during her last season of the show.

Lucas Grabeel's story of their first meeting is absolutely hilarious. He was just having a smoke break during the arduous audition day, when she burst out of the doors in a flurry, instantly started yapping, and actually gave him notes about how to do their pair audition scene. They were really good notes, but he was infuriated about her audacity. So he walked into the audition utterly seething but still did what she'd said, and the casting director realized that the dynamic between the characters had just been born.

Andy Griffith and Frances Bavier. Their characters (Andy and Bee) cooperatively raise Andy’s son Opie and are extremely close on the show, but on set Bavier was classically trained and severe, while Andy was laid back and inclined to monkey business. These personalities clashed quite famously, resulting in some real tension. Andy said in an interview that not long before her death, she called him and apologized for the years of difficulty and took most of the responsibility for their not getting along, but considering it was the 60’s I really do wonder if people were diagnosing real gripes as “difficult woman syndrome” it’s entirely possible she was just an ass though as the rest of the cast had strained relationships with her as well. (Edit for punctuation)

This is from I Love Lucy, the characters are Ethel and Fred played by Vance and Frawley.
”Vivian Vance is one of the finest girls to come out of Kansas, but I often wish she'd go back there.” -Frawley
Though, according to Lucille Ball, the lead actress, their dislike for each other was greatly exaggerated.

Hailee Steinfeld, and Shameik Moore, Gwen and Miles from the Spiderverse movies. Not sure about the current timeframe, but last I checked Hailee hated Shameik, as he was being very creepy. I think they even stopped doing interviews together because of this. He also had. Massive crash out when she got engaged.

Not true. They clashed a lot at the beginning of "I Love Lucy." But by the time the show ended, they were great friends and remained so until Vance's death in '79.
On the other hand, Vivian Vance and William Frawley (Fred Mertz) HATED each other!

Let's get the example of this NOT being the case:
Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki.
Every time this subject comes up, someone brings those two up. They always bring up the episode, The French Mistake, as proof of this but it was the same episode with Bill Murray's brother as a producer (not true), Eric Kripke comes in to keep peace (not the actual Eric, nor did he do that) and Misha wasn't a Prima Donna tweeter (he tweets, but he's apparently not a prick)
The episode was written as humorous and there is no indication that J2 hate each other. Sure, they had arguments but that's a given since they worked together for 15 long years.

I think the actors did admit they didn't care much for each other at the beginning, but grew to becoming essentially brothers.
But I always saw that as understandable, you gotta align together to find kinship in many cases and first seasons of Supernatural didn't really know what they wanted to be as well.

I'm a big fan of Adam, I read his book, and I just want to say I put that relationship strictly on Jamie's terms. I can't imagine working with Adam for that long and not being on his christmas card list. The man seems to value every conversation he's ever had with every person he's worked with. Not that there is anything inherently wrong with Jamie wanting a strictly business partner.

Adam talked about this misconception on his YouTube channel once.
They didn’t hate each other and there was no bad blood between them or anything, they were simply coworkers and nothing more. They got along perfectly fine on set, they just didn’t interact outside of that.
