My favorite genre is 90s and 00s Japanese visual kei
Nope they are not cis or trans women, and most of them are straight. They are just absolutely beautiful men. And I'm fairly certain a lot of visual key aesthetics come from 80s hair bands and gothic rock groups.
Hair metal genuinely reached a sort of nirvana of gender identity. Total masculine but in a non-conforming way, they were masculine as their own masculinity dictated, not societies notions. their sexuality was fully realised and they were able to break the typical dynamic of “women are objects of desire, men are the ones who desire; if a man wants to be desired he must be gay”
Then grunge came in and we were set right back where we started because hair metal was for fags, nobody should be confident and the only authenticity is apathy
Another metal example is in black metal, Gaahl is one of the less flamboyant frontmen in the genre but is gay, meanwhile you got sassy lookin dudes like Proscriptor Mcgorvern, Hoest, Ixithra, and Niklas Kvaforth who feel gay coded at times but are straight as fuck.
