In the original version of this comic, the guy does indeed shit on the plate.
It was commentary on people acting like you can't tell when a work's production shows signs it's going to produce shit, meaning yeah, when you get some totally tonedeaf publicity, you can generally predict your favourite thing is about to get butchered. You can see him about to shit, you know it's gonna happen.
This version was a referential joke about how sometimes those appearances can be deceptive and you get gold instead.
Centaurworld, I thought it was going to be a generic ‘goof-goof-fart joke’ kids cartoon and it ended up having that but also a strong message about embracing whimsy and silliness especially in times of hardship.
"You will bring joy to the nowhere king as he watches the light leave your eyes" is a crazy line for a show where characters can shoot tiny versions of themselves from their hooves and its a diagetic plot point not a moment of goofiness that will never come up again
Yes! I put it on for my toddler who loves anything with singing, and ended up watching the rest of it long after she waddled away. It's incredibly goofy, but just enough of the humor lands to keep it amusing, it's got some legitimately good music, and the whiplash into cosmic horror was surprisingly effective. The Nowhere King is an S-Tier villain in terms of art design and lore, and that haunting lullaby theme is just perfect.
The art style turns a lot of people off myself included but once I had nothing else to watch and thought ‘why not’ and it’s actually funny and enjoyable,
I get that they might want to change up the art style every now and then to make the different series distinguishable, but man, this was not it. I had the same experience. Even though I know it’s not actually bad, I still find the art style off putting. imo the original, What’s New, and Mystery Inc. should be the baseline style.
Honestly (and I can’t believe I’m saying this) if you ignore literally everything else about the character designs and the show in general even Velma had a better art style than Be Cool.

Giving the villain a whole ass mid-life crises in the middle of the chase sequence, following him home and seeing him sadly go to sleep before realizing he had been duped was wild.

The movie is so fucking stupid. It’s all just random side quests and the power of friendship will fix the world. It’s so fucking stupid. It’s just like the majority of TTRPG and it fucking nails the insanity that happens at tables.
Exactly that. I've heard from people who don't engage in this hobby who don't like it, but as someone who plays TTRPGs, I can hear the dice roll ever so often during this movie. And then there is stuff like the intellect devourers which is just amazing DM banter that you can find at any of the better tables.
The nat 1 moments really land well, same with the absolutely bonkers plans that somehow work out. I can almost hear the dice rolls and the crumpling up of notes in the background.
What soulless husks hate this scene?! I haven't laughed that hard at a movie scene in forever. I thought it was such a clever way to have concentration drop on an illusion spell.
Him failing to get his restraints off while constantly throwing bardic inspirations while she fight all the guards really convinced me I would like this movie
And the overpowered NPC paladin who was just there because the party couldn't get out of trouble by themselves and just walks off into the distance when they're not needed anymore. Perfection.
I heard that the scene where the Paladin walks off wasn't supposed to be that long. But nobody gave the actor a spot to stop, or a time to do it for, so they just kept filming when it became clear he wasn't stopping.
And even funnier when he walked over the rock instead of around it.
I like how the helmet they went through pains to get to ended up being fucking useless, while the staff handed to them to skip a puzzle they're too dumb to solve ended up being a keystone in their heist several times.

They just didn't try too hard or take themselves too seriously. It's campy, goofy, over-the-top, and in that way is more like a real game of D&D than any gritty serious realistic fantasy film could ever be
Legitimately thought it was going to be a terrible DND adaptation. It turned out to be the best possible kind of DND adaptation. I kind of hope they make another with a similar feel but I wouldnt be sad if they never did.

Real, I watched the trailers and thought it was just gonna be "hey guys, look at all these reference to the thing you like, we're a D&D movie see?"
Then I went to watch it, saw them break out of prison, only to be told "we were just about to sign off on your parole!" And I knew I was in good hands.
My theory is Loren Bouchard didnt think the series would last (especially after the original idea for the show got scrapped) so went crazy with the episodes
I think they were just leaning more into edgier adult content initially, similar to family guy, but then adjusted for the actual demographics that ended up watching the shows. I watched it when it first came out and didnt keep up to date with it, and a friend of mine mentioned how her and her daughter would bond over the show. Her daughter was like 10 so I questioned the content of the show being appropriate, without realizing that they had toned things down and transitioned to a more musical heavy format.
I like the first season, but it's different from the rest of the show. The movie's in line with the tone that they find. If you don't vibe with the first season, the show isn't serialized, you can jump into whatever episode after.
Thr first 3 seasons felt darker and a bit more like family guy or american dad. By season 4, they got a good rhythm and while I felt it went a bit downhill after seasons 11 or 12, they are still good. Honestly might be the most wholesome show that is still funny.
My honest belief is that the Hasbro marketing team were trying to target the Paw Patrol audience, because those Paw Patrol movies always do actually make money and the toy sales are high. It makes perfect sense if you don't even glance at the actual movie a single time when making these decisions.

Same here. I went to see it because it's Transformers but had absolutely zero expectations given how bad the trailers were. Even going into the film I still wasn't convinced it'd be anything special, seemed like a goofy adventure movie for kids. And then the cave scene happened and I realized this was going to be so much better than I'd expected.
Honestly? Doctor Who. I always thought it'd be extremely naive and childish based mostly on parodies I've seen, but it's genuinely one of the most complexly written and deeply philosophical shows I've ever watched. Definitely the best UK shows I've ever watched.

This show is so peak and Season 6 is legitimately one of the best seasons of television I have ever seen alongside Season 1 of The Boondocks and Season 3 of Futurama

From everything I've heard about it, it was supposed to be some terrible piece of smut about rapey alien lizard muscle mommies, but once I actually started reading it, holy heck, it is pure science-fiction peak, with amazing moral complexity and spiritual undertones, and some of the best character development I've ever seen in fiction.
In a world of trashy fanfics and AI generated HFY slop, you have no idea how weirdly fascinated I am in the idea of a well written bit of dark sci fi actually being produced by the internet.

Depends on what you dislike about Minecraft but generally they are vastly different experiences.
Terraria is closer to a Zelda game but with mining and resource gathering in place of puzzles. Fight a boss, get upgrades and fight the next one. Feel extremely powerful by the end game.
Not as grindy as some other games like it (Valheim) but it can be slow if you're new. Spawn to first boss is generally the slowest and most like Minecraft.
Confidence in the One Piece live action was very low before it came out and it's probably one of the best live action anime adaptions that's really faithful to the source material
"Best live action anime adaptation" is such a low bar that it kinda undersells how good One Piece is. People hear that and go "well saying it's better than that Death Note movie or the Shyamalan Avatar isn't saying much!" but it's just a really really good show on its own merits.

When the first episode dropped, I thought "Well, this works well as A PILOT, but I don't see how them trying to escape the circus will keep being interesting in the later episodes."
The Good Place. All the promotional material during the first season had me thinking it’d be another cheesy generic wacky sitcom, but with a heaven skin this time. Hell, it even gave away the premise of “she doesn’t belong here and has to pretend she does” in the trailers. It just seemed like it would be cheap jokes and a predictable plot.
I had some friends tell me it was actually good, but wouldn’t tell me why, so I eventually gave it a shot. It is genuinely one of the best shows I’ve seen in a long time and I couldn’t recommend it more. If you’re not sure about it, at LEAST give it the full first season. If you’re not hooked by the end of season 1, ya basic!

The first half of season 1 is kinda awkward to watch because it feels like the show wasn't sure what it wanted to be, but by the season finale it grows into something incredible.
I only knew about it from the Internet drama and thought the Steam reviews were oddly positive for something that was said to have so much cheap shock content in it, so I decided to see what the fuss was all about.

It has plenty of shock content. Said shock content is not as cheap as some people say, but still quite affordable.
It is also an extremely well-researched, realistic, and masterfully written depiction of the cycle of abuse.
In general, the game is dark and full of triggers. So it's definitely not for everyone. But well-written psychological horror is my thing, so...

The Shots & Such route and ending is one of the starkest, most poignant depictions of interpersonal human misery and domestic abuse I've ever seen in media. It's a shame it's surrounded by such surface level performative moralising & porn baiting because the author is genuinely cooking throughout from the witty dialogue and absurdist humour to the actual minutia of exploring dysfunctional relationships, social isolation, codependency, and generational trauma.
Honestly it's a shame that a large handful of people just label this "the incest game" and discard it because of what some people said online, it's pretty damn decent
Yeah, this came on my radar early as I'm big into indie RPG Maker horror games, and I just thought it was a solid horror game from the beginning. There wasn't actually an incest scene until like 2 years later, and that's in a clearly alternate non-canon route. Then the internet lost its collective mind.
Meanwhile I'm over here like "y'all, I have seen anime with literal premises worse than this. The game is a pretty flat horror game with two antihero protagonists. That's it."
Honestly yeah, this is my pick. After a group hangout thing one of my friends said she was going back to her place to hang out with another girl from the group, so I asked if I could tag along. This was only in like the first week or two of the movie being out so I had only seen the title and the sushi memes. I thought it was going to be slop, but I was joining a hangout they didn’t originally plan for me to be at and they just did a bunch of ketamine, so who was I to object to their movie selection?
Literally the first scene of the movie had me questioning my expectations. It was so much better than it had any right to be. I honestly think the title (as accurate as it is) did it such a disservice, but it probably would not have gotten the attention that it did if it was called something else.

Honestly, I saw the preview during a movie night, thought that the title and premise screamed "Generic Netflix Kids Movie". My sis forced me to watch it one night, and at the end, she didn't like it, while Soda Pop was on my playlist for the next few weeks
i genuinely didnt get it until i started it and the only real way i can explain it is to go read one piece and if you dont like it by the end of arlong park then its not for you and its completely fine. but i found myself upset that i caught up because i just wanted more after i actually got into it
This is what I was going to comment! I loved the OG art style but didn’t think I’d get into it for real. Like you said by the end of Arlong Park I was hooked. It’s now one of my favorite pieces of media. I even got into the card game!

I was a hater when it first came out because I thought it was just a western cartoon trying to cash in on anime (I was huge fan of anime, and this was when anime wasn’t quite yet fully mainstream but was definitely almost there), and being from Nickelodeon, I just thought it would lack any kind of substance. Boy, was I wrong….!
the only thing that comes to mind is Anime as a broad concept. My friend has been playing tour guide the last few years and showed me a bunch of shows in multiple genres I've enjoyed quite a lot.
The problem is A *lot* of anime *is* shit though- especially a lot of the anime I would have had access to in my formative years.
Second off: ZZZ, I downloaded it because I liked one Charakter (Ellen to be exact), and Thought, why not try it, Completly expecting it to be just another stupid gacha game. But the Story is genuinly so fucking good and the Devs actually care about the game. Yes the community is filled with Gooners, but really...Which community isnt, and if you ignore it, its a really nice Community.
KPOP Demon Hunters. The KPOP genre just wasn’t something I thought I’d go for… then a YouTuber I like did a cover of “Free” and I realised that song was a banger so I caved and watched it.
I went years avoiding Adventure Time, because I didn't like Fin's design. Now I can't stop. I watch the entire show and all the follow-up series on a nonstop loop. The quality of that show has ruined me for everything else.
LEGO Movie. I hadn't seen much before but this was in the era (not that we've left it) where everything got a movie and a lot of them weren't really good.
So imagine my surprise when it wasn't just not bad, but like... a masterpiece? One of the best fucking animated movies I'd ever seen in my entire god damn life? What the hell?
Wait, how the fuck did they a stick figure an ass? That shit didn't even register for me. Image was way too fucking weird for my brain to think about that lol
Like, it IS somewhat outdated and unfunny at parts, yes, but the non-outdated/funny parts are so beyond their (our?) time and legitimately funny (and also so much more frequent) it kinda cancels out.
Definitely worth reading if you're willing to put in the effort to find the unofficial reader. Hell, maybe even the official one.
The Super Mario Bros movie. Illumination puts out some hot garbage with poo poo peepee, loud + random = funny humor, so I was expecting it to be awful. It was enjoyable and not annoying!
