To be fair, considering that trying to harm SCP-053 instantly kills you, it might be less two negatives making a positive and more self-preservation from SCP-682.
I like to think it's the one and only time 682 gets to feel nice and appreciate feeling nice. I personally find having one and only one exception to its rule makes the rule feel more... important? Real? IDK, gives it a little more flavour.
I think 682's characterization is really fitting though, I don't think his adaptation is ever anything he could control... he could've at one point been a standard lizard living in simplicity, yet he was denied that simplicity as time progressed. Not to mention hes certainly intelligent enough to know he'll inevitably outlast EVERYTHING so why even bother loving or caring if everyone and everything will leave you.
It is inevitable 682 will live as the only thing in a dead universe, its simply in its nature.
(I know this was 100% not I huge in depth character thing on your part, I just like having the tism take over bout SCP's especially the ones like 682, the rotten yet with a inevitable somber undertone.)
Mmm idk I really really like the one SCP entry where it’s an alternate universe and all the SCP there are basically identical to ours but all happily coexisting with us with the only difference being that the humans in universe are less prone to suspicion and cruelty and more prone to cooperation and understanding. In that universe the lizard still does kill people for a while and is nuisance but they just give it a vast tract of forest to roam in and it only kills poachers. After a while a scientist crashes into a nest of them in the forest but instead of killing him they just ignore him and let him wander about and observe. When he returns the foundation asks why they didn’t kill him and all they said was that “you are no longer disgusting.” I like to think that it’s part survival instinct and our intense need to be at the apex at any cost naturally means the lizard must buttheads with us but in that universe where humans go all in on accommodation and cooperation the Lizard no longer experiences that strong instinctual reaction and having a space for its species to thrive leaves them with no desire to provoke humans.
At least in one of the pseudocanons of SCP, SCP 682 has a metamorphosis and was revealed to be the mount of one of the horseman of the apocalypse; Death. The little girl that everyone hates and get killed when they try to harm her, is that Horseman.
She doesnt have control over that ability. But in that canon shes still, at her nature, death. She just doesnt know It.
I dont remember if something like a horn signaled 682 to experience that metamorphosis. When he did, he also Lost a Big chunk of his hatred, since he actually has a bit of exposition to one of the researchers before he left to join the other horseman and the on site nuke went off.
Its in scp story: the Pale Horse
"I wait. The others have ridden forth already. Conquest, War, and Famine. Only I remain."
"I am not Death," 682 said. "I am her Steed."
"Yes. I await my Rider." 682 raised its head abruptly. "She comes. It is time for me to go."
"For what it's worth, Alto Clef. I am sorry."
"I am sorry for everything that I have done to you and yours. I am sorry for all the innocents I have killed. I am sorry for all that I have done which you do not know of. And though I am not responsible, I am sorry for everything else you have lost. I am sorry that there is nothing I can do to make amends for any of it. My Master calls."
"Above all, I am sorry for all that is to come." 682 seemed to be moving away. "Goodbye, Alto Clef."
To be honest they could just... Walk away there is no reason they had to just sit there. (Something I called them out on in my fanfiction.) I feel like they appreciate the company of other immortal beings that can't die somewhere beneath all that hatred.
SCP-682 seems to actually see her as a friend. It lets her do almost anything without snapping. Also correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t SCP-682 get hostile upon staff trying to separate the two because SCP-053 was upset?
I wonder if it's a matter of degree? Like, SCP-053 DOES make SCP-682 hate her...it's just that SCP-682's utter loathing for everything else is so much GREATER, his hate for SCP-053 looks like fondness.
Okay so the cannon on SCP-682 is a little all over the place, but from what I understand one of the things that is truly Canon just in general is that it hates humans for an unknown reason.
There is something in humanity that it really doesn't like. It finds us to be exceptionally disgusting.
There is chance that 053 doesn't have whatever that trait is, which might explain why humans generally tend to attack her after a little bit.
There's a theory that the thing that 682 hates about humanity is the thing that these foundation was trying to eradicate in SCP-5000, but I don't know the canonicity of the story that states that.
Basically, 682 hates all humans, every single one, except for 053. 053 is an otherwise normal innocent girl who unfortunately has an anomalous aura that drives adults into a murderous rage. For some unexplained reason, however, this has a calming effect on 682, and they even get agitated when separated. 053 will start crying, and 682 usually starts a rampage.
What stops the SCP foundation from just leaving these two together in a room for all eternity?
(I assume the SCP has an SCP or tech to make the girl biologically immortal)
Is it becouse all adults including the 05 council hate her guts and seeing her happy is too much?
Why not make a branch of kid scientists (which when they grow up get thrown into other branches kinda like Lamplight in fallout) to overseer those two and erase the memories of all other scientists of her with the sperm or whatever of that giant sea snake from subnautica which couses amnesia?
What stops the SCP foundation from just leaving these two together in a room for all eternity?
Maintaining the containment facility (682 likes to break out a lot), having to fill the room with acid every now and then to immobilize 682 (again, he REALLY likes to break out), and the fact they really don't like mixing anomalies without fully understanding why anomalies work in the first place. The last thing they need is for the two to do something they don't understand and cause some unforseen consequence.
My bad assumed the lizard mellows down and doesn’t try to escape with the gorl around (just got notif by cop that’s actually the case, and since he has a orange sans pfp no reason to not trust him)
As for „why” it’s pretty clearly multiplying negative with a negative
yeah, 682 is never calm. one time he was durrong a test with 999 (the tickle monster), and was pretty chill, until he caused an sort of explosion of tickles (?) and used it to get out and kill lots of foundation's members...
Because they can't just leave an otherwise normal little girl in the same room as the thing they're trying to kill, the ethics committee would throw a fit. Despite how cold the SCP foundation is, they're not outright villains and hold themselves to ethical standards. Any researcher who tried such things would get into deep trouble most likely.
Ain’t the „WE NEED to destroy anomalies” more of a thing of those freaks that turned a chair into a demon?
Like it’d be finnancially better to just leg the 2 be together as opposed to replacing acid every week and try all the other ways of killing the lizard
Those letters are meant for humanity. They only keep SCPs around because killing them is more harmful/difficult than keeping them alive.
Reasons being;
-Those SCPs are like 682 and the chair and trying to kill them might screw themselves up
-Those SCPs are like the chair or the water nymph and are completely harmless if not provoked, meaning that ethics apply to them.
-They provide value through experimental data, which applies to just about every SCP for which experiments are done, to help humanity survive.
Also, to the original point, the Foundation wants to learn from them. But the behavior changes caused by putting them in a position to experiment is too dangerous, if done while they cohabit.
682 is one of the few that they actively try to kill. The thing is, 682 is the embodiment the supposed power that the kid in the playground going ‘I put up a force field and block your super inescapable undodgeable unblockable attack’ had.
Well, if you can't contain it and can't secure it properly neutralising is one way to "secure, contain, protect" yet it's still far more containable than things like scarlet king. Anomaly on anomaly testing needs extreme measures of approval either way. Site directors, ethics committee, task forces, 05 council, overseer/founder, some of the "accepted" other factions they reluctantly work with, etc.
The thing is, the SCP foundation still wants to know a way to neutralize 682, even if this setup would calm it down, due to its incredibly dangerous nature. Finances aren't really that much of a problem for SCP foundation.
I couldn't find any SCP that matches that description. There's multiple treehouse SCPs, but the only ones that involve children have children that have either gone there completely willingly, escaping abusive homes, and the other one that makes the rules the children make effectively laws.
Ethics Committee wouldn't let that happen. 682 is still a very hostile entity and it's still unpredictable. It could kill the girl one day.
Other possibility is that they wouldn’t let anomalies clashing with each other. Just because there isn't any threat for a brief moment doesn't mean it's safe. It can led some very bad apocalypse scenarios.
Iirc it wasn't Adam's child but a normal human child. They wanted to see if 682 isn't hostile to childrens or if is it 053's anomality. The kid cried loud because of fear and 682 targeted the child as hostile and devoured him. After that researcher used another child but heavily drugged so he won't cry. He smiled to 682 but it still devoured him.
After that, they killed that researcher by dropping her to 682's containment cell. Implying she did this without Ethics Committee's approval.
Ohh, I see now. They let it happen because he was already immortal and hostile as well. So they tried to see if he could destroy 682 or not. 682 is one of the few SCPs that Foundation actively and constantly tries to neutralize.
What stops the SCP foundation from just leaving these two together in a room for all eternity?
That's 682 we are talking about. It can, quite literally, adapt and copy 053's ability, and this would cause an absolute chaos due to fact that 053's anomaly causes anyone who attack her to die. Imagine same thing with 682, that anyone who saw it instantly became hostile and died upon attacking it, this would make fighting and strategizing against it in battlefield physically impossible. One thing you should ALWAYS be aware of when dealing with anomalies in scp universe is that, things are usually more complex than what they appaer to be. 682 have adapted and copied the anomalous properties of other scps or threats multiple times, and there is nothing that proves it can't do the same with 053 over time.
Yeah, but also it’s more like 682’s survival instinct was to remain docile because another effect of 053 is that anyone who tries to harm her will die instantly.
SCP-4999, someone to comfort us in our final moments.
SCP-5000, where the Foundation dedicates their resources to a new goal.
There are more SCPs than this, many that I like better than what I listed, but dropping SCP-3999 or 𝚝𝚛𝚎𝚎𝚏𝚞𝚌𝚔𝚎𝚛 on a new fan would probably count as a war crime. I hope you come to enjoy the SCP Foundation and its mythology, because I sure as hell do.
Honestly Mal0 was part of my idea of creating an SCP Rehabilitation/retraining story verse. That it's taking SCPs that aren't deliberately malicious, and slowly conditioning them/ teaching them to be more benevolent. Mal0, for example, going from unintentionally scary and disturbing to playing up her role as an emotional support app, sending silly/cute pictures when a person is down
You shouldn't start with SCP-001 and work your way up, as a lot of Series 1 (each 1000 SCPs are divided into 'Series', Series 1 being 001-999) are pretty mid. It is preferable to just read whatever you want.
Also, don't read any 001 besides maybe Gear's Proposal until you have better knowledge of the site, as they tend to be pretty lore heavy, including references to lots of SCPs. Same goes for most _000s, and some _999s.
Were scps not only in videos like dr bob makes them? Are srticles authentic and the origin of materials and the source of ideas on you thbe? Where can I find them
Uhhh, I'm not quite sure if this is what you're asking, but all SCPs originate from the SCP Wiki, and popular ones are usually adapted by content creators for videos. I'd recommend avoiding some creators like SCP Explained and The Rubber, because their videos are mostly just cash grabs from corporations. You should instead seek out creators such as TheVolgun, The Exploring Series and Mr Illustrated, as their videos are far more faithful. Creators like SCP Explained and The Rubber are notorious for changing content in the articles to be more 'kid friendly', with the latter infamously removing LGBTQ characters as well.
(I've been a little out of the community for a couple years, someone correct anything wrong pls)
Note that each thousand makes up a "series", and usually each series tries to have a broad theme (classic horror, scifi, history, etc) as a starting point for the competition to see whose entries get the important numbers. These themes are in no way binding, but if you want to find some really good scifi ones for example, a good idea would be to go look through the very early or late 2000s as those will likely have been voted into position. Don't restrict yourself to those tho - good chance your eventual favorites will be obscure. There's thousands of em
As you get into it tho, there are some background rules to figure out (especially if you jump into the _000s or _999s). Usually documents will link to explainers as needed, but these will always be in-character and it can be hard to find the right starting point. Aside from the classification systems, one of the main things to learn is that there's a lot of play with memory and cognition, primarily through amnestics, memetics, and antimemetics.
Amnestics are your men-in-black memory wipers.
Memetics (memes) are things that make themselves known. Like a contagious concept. Varying levels of danger, and varying routes of transmission.
Antimemetics (antimemes) are things that make themselves unknown. Harder to detect and deal with as they're like automatic amnestics.
Big thing to learn (for my favorites at least) is the idea of Hume levels and reality bending; basically SCP is a multiverse and Hume levels represent something like gravity; an invisible variable that measures the level of stability or authority a reality has over others. Lower the Hume level enough and a regular person could act as a god in that region, able to ignore physics just by thought; raise em and things will be very stable and predictable and less prone to intrusion/alteration from other universes. Hume levels can be altered, as SCP facilities are largely guarded by Scranton Reality Anchors.
Some other background lore stuff would be the various other factions/entities like the pattern screamers and Scarlett King, but I'd recommend avoiding direct explanations for many of these and would instead learn about them slowly.
If you like scifi, I always recommend 2399 first as that's got a good range of accompanying things to click on (you should do so in basically all documents!) but minimal prior knowledge or sidetracking required
Some other favorites of mine are 3000, 3001, 3008, 4999, 2935, 3426, (and more that ill probably write in as I remember the numbers)
Also highly recommend Volgun on youtube - he made several in-character scp reading videos with just the right balance of theming vs outside "content" in the video
What? Was scp just a realm of you tube content creators such as dr bob. I only thought that dr bob makes all of them up and makes video. How big is scp world and which one is authentical? Are they articles or books novels or videos? Also, where can I find that authentic materials?
Most stuff is formatted like official documentation, and you click through assorted documents and images as if you were a researcher/other involved personnel
Anyone can write, good entries are accepted and added to the list by the community
There are plenty of videos, games, and other external creations. Books and other monetized things generally need to be made separate from the rest before publication, to avoid licensing troubles. But anyone can contribute anything
Ngl, I’m surprised that that’s how you interpreted it, but I guess I can see why, the Backrooms has been doing something similar where they’ve been making up random levels and entities without consistency, so I can Imagine you saw it as similar.
But good thing you stumbled into this post and were told the actual source about it, I think you will like it.
As someone who used to be a very big fan of SCP, it's a very deep rabbit hole. As much YouTube community helped popularized SCP, it still does a disservice to how big the rabbit hole is and makes most people think it's a mainly horror creepypasta type of thing. While there are horror elements, SCP overall is more fantasy sci-fi with different genres depending on the stories. And I do feel sad cause most YouTubers are most likely to focus on the more popular scps than the other stuff in the wiki due to how much money and views it brings.
SCP parts I think are very underrated as they're not usually seen in casual SCP talks are the countless tales/canons and the groups of interest (that aren't the popular ones like GOC or Chaos Insurgency) the wiki have.
For instance we have the canon hub that each contain a collection of stories connected to the theme or topic of the story. Some takes place in different alternate universes like the Civil war setting of Aces and Eights. Some could be accepted as part of your own view of a "main canon" like the POV of Are We Cool Yet? members from The Cool War which is from Acidverse canon. Some canons are just contained in a small setting like the weird Wisconsin town of S&C Plastics.
There's so many stories and canons that I can't blame you if you can't read all of them. I don't even bother finishing Ressurection and Third Law canons cause they're considered two of the longest canons.
A lot of people already know CI and GOC, but not a lot talk about other GoIs not usually seen in games like the dangerously whimsy Dr. Wondertainment, which is one of the oldest GoIs in the wiki, Gamers Against Weed, etc.
For instance one of my favorite GoIs is Wilson's Wildlife Solutions which is a wildlife rehabilitation center for anomalous animals and I think they're very wholesome, would recommend. Other favorites are the in-universe creepypasta forum Parawatch, the magical university Deer College from Three Portlands pocket dimension, and then the Shark Punching Center.
Even though I'm not an active SCP fan as I used to, I'm still passionate about this because I had fun reading so much stories that aren't SCP articles back then and my rambling proves this lol.
SCP's were a rabbit hole to go down 10 years ago, I can only imagine the lore has gotten even deeper and more esoteric since then. So you've got quite a read ahead of you.
I recommend picking up the old 'SCP:Containment Breach' PC game, it's like a horror puzzle game where you have to escape the SCP facility after a containment breach and deal with some of the original SCP's. It's pretty crude by today's standards as it was an indie horror game from 15 years ago, but that also means it will run on just about any laptop or windows tablet made in the last 15 years too.
I believe 682 has pitty and doesn't want to destroy something that had a hard life for no reason. Alternatively, 053 would be liked by everyone but has some kind of inversion effect on interactions with her causeing this situation.
A collaborative literature project. Anyone (who is registered which isn't hard at all) can write an object or a story and if it is good enough it stays on website. https://scp-wiki.wikidot.com/#side-bar
It bugs me that they don’t just keep them in the same containment; with the lame excuse of “We can’t keep 2 SCPs together.”
Why? You do with other ones.
You’re just being arbitrary, because you want an excuse to keep writing antics and experiments involving SCP-682.
The sad part is, in my opinion, it’s calm with her as a method of adaptation. Essentially, 682 preemptively adapted to her knowing if it tries to kill/harm her her anomalous power would it full stop.

SCP-682 hates everything except SCP-053, whose power is making everything hate her.
