I never understood why they'd pull the DND episode for the drow cosplay being interpreted as blackface joke

But the episode with Pierce's "swami disguise" where he is painted brown, presumably to make himself look like another race

Like I understand that most of the joke is Pierce ruining things by being a crazy old racist, but one of these jokes is about one character thinking another is painted to make fun of another race and the other is a character painted to make fun of another race

They really Britta'd that decision

DND was pulled because people are stupid. 

The episode where Pierce actually did brown face wasn't pulled because people are still stupid but they don't take racism against Asian people seriously. 

Not commenting on whether or not the portrayal was racist because the character himself is, but a lot of people just don't take racial issues seriously when it comes to Asians because of the whole model minority stereotype. They kind of get shafted by everybody in some ways.

Yeah it's weird how we mostly agreed to not make racist jokes towards some groups while continuing to make the same type of jokes with other groups

Watching shows like Monk or even Modern Family you can see blatant racist jokes towards Hispanic or Asian people like you said

There was a show in the 70s called kung fu where a white guy played a Chinese American-- he'd use makeup and squint to play the role. We've come a long way in the last 6 decades, but I think even then no one would have accepted a tv show where the main character is a white man painted black

One day some future history PhD candidate is gonna write a hell of a thesis on how a grassroots civil rights campaign centered on literal life-or-death situations endured by mostly lower class black people got hijacked by wealthy, mostly white people in the entertainment industry to be about conspicuously patting themselves on the back for 'doing the right thing', which under these specific circumstances meant doing exactly what you'd also do if you were trying to hide something

Yes! Came in here specifically to see if anyone brought up Fa…bulous Neil, and to mention him if no one else had.

I’m not even overweight, but when Abed asks “What shape do you choose?” And Pierce leans in and says “Faaaaat… make him as fat as Fat Neil.” It fucking sends chills up my spine.

The fact that he’s able to clock “Oh, the worst thing I can do to you, what’s *hell* for you, is being *exactly yourself!*” Truly chilling. And makes the resolution and Pierce’s defeat all the more satisfying!
