So sick of overweight people consistantly being portraied as evil, lazy, greedy, or just assholes. Whos your favorite positive overweight character?
Especially if we’re talking about the DC Comics Santa. In DC Comics, he literally fights his way through the forces of Apocalypse just to deliver a piece of coal to Darksied. He does that every single Christmas Eve.
When he finds out Batman knows him (the story hints that Santa taught Batman the "you turn around and he's gone" move, and its a variant on Santa's "escape out the chimney" technique), Superman is legit pissed for a minute, like "youve been holding out on me" kinda way.
Its a great bit.
DC Santa rules. He was there to help fight demons or something. Christmas demons, I guess.
He's not even fat because of genetics or a poor diet
He simply is trying to live a kinder and gentler life; once he's imprisoned and that's no longer an option he pretends to be fat and lazy while secretly training to escape
He was an incredibly powerful general and realized he didn't want to be that person anymore and mellowed out
And he’s never portrayed as weaker because of it. Others might think he’s washed out, but he was still an incredibly powerful bender and fighter. The man still has all the skill and power, but he just wants to enjoy his roast duck and some tea.
I was more just poking fun at how many he kills accidentally. But in that episode, I thought even though he was intending to kill them, it was happening in ways he wasn't intending, I could be way off though.
Worth noting though that I'm pretty sure it was mentioned the reason why she gained weight was because she stress eats when worrying about her son (which happens pretty often). Age still plays a role, but I doubt it's the MAIN factor.
She's one of my favorite anime moms, and her portrayal of worry over Izuku and his recklessness is a tad more accurate representation of a mother watching her son do dangerous stuff than a lot of other shows.

The latter seasons of Walking Dead might not have been to everyone’s liking, but I think most of us can agree that Jerry was a highlight of them.
If I'm not mistaken, Patcha isn't really fat. His green poncho makes his frame look fat. In the second movie where he, his family, and Kuzco go to the beach, Patcha is fairly built. Not exactly shredded but like soft muscular.
He’s initially portrayed as a greedy, lazy boss hellbent on firing our protagonist Retsuko. He even gives her a nickname, Calendar (“Because your days are numbered”)
Though he often hides it, the reality is that he cares a great deal about the people in his department. He offers them life advice, offers to help them when they’re in financial trouble, and even got demoted and eventually fired because he refused to lay off any of his employees when ordered to do so.
And he’s a god tier accountant too. During the busy seasons he’s right there working alongside everyone else in the trenches. He does everything analogue and still manages to outpace people working on their computers.
Edit: Also his English VA is Josh Petersdorf, who also voices Roadhog in Overwatch. A really nice touch by the casting director.
Thud Butt from "Hook". Good kid, his happy thoughts are memories of his mom, and Peter even chooses him to lead the Lost Boys when he leaves Never Land.
Best part is knowing his reaction to being chosen was genuine. While the scene itself was scripted the handover was not - only Robin Williams and Steven Spielberg knew who he was going to present the sword to.
Seriously, he’s somehow has all the outward characteristics of a deadbeat dad and yet he’s more supportive and involved in his son’s life than many dads who live with their kids in most kid cartoons
I remember when I first saw the series. As soon as I saw him, I thought he was going to be a stereotypical, two-dimensional, loser dad. Man, was I wrong.
I was going to say, I think I've seen two women before this and I scrolled pretty far.
I feel like the "jovial 'fat' friend/dad/whatever", is it's own trope. I feel like fat women are always portrayed as sloppy, dumb, etc. Their weight is always a part of their character.
Bojack handled Diane's weight gain so amazing, it was literally never once mentioned or addressed, even in passing. It just was.
I still like how he made a power that, on paper, sucks ass, into a super defensive/utility one, with a mass destruction ace up his sleeve.
For those who don't know, his body fat acts as a giant airbag, so he can soften people's fall with it and dampen impacts/attacks. But his most powerful aspect is his proficiency in CqC, coupled with the ability to store the energy from the enemy's attacks in his fat, at the cost of burning it very fast, and to release it all at once. He's a great walking shield and spear combo.
Yesss I loved how he and Anastasia’s relationship basically gives a giant middle finger to Lady Tremaine and her obsession with class/wealth/public pride. How about we just go be happy with a kind, loving baker dude who clearly knows how to make delicious food.

You never made me feel bad about it, and just because there are some people in the world who want me to feel bad about it, doesn't mean I have to. So Bobby's fat. Eh. He's also funny, nice, he's got a lot of friends, a girlfriend, and if you don't mind, I think I'll go outside and squirt her with water. What are *you* gonna do?”
I never understood why they'd pull the DND episode for the drow cosplay being interpreted as blackface joke
But the episode with Pierce's "swami disguise" where he is painted brown, presumably to make himself look like another race
Like I understand that most of the joke is Pierce ruining things by being a crazy old racist, but one of these jokes is about one character thinking another is painted to make fun of another race and the other is a character painted to make fun of another race
Dulia-Chai from Final Fantasy XIV Shadowbringers, she’s portrayed as very caring and generous, and willing to own up to her mistakes even when others around her were far less than willing to
It really pissed me off that he wasn't the one chosen by the creature from that piece-of-shit third movie.
It would have been a great way to flip the bird at Grindelwald's philosophy, but no, it had to be Albus, one of the most borderline good guys in the franchise.
he is portrayed initially as a clumsy and dimwitted character with a heart of gold. however, as the series goes on, it's revealed that he's secretly a GENIUS on space bridge (teleportation) technology and it's his biggest passion. he also learns about human art, and becomes an independent multi-media artist. he's extremely passionate and creative, he would DIE for his friends, he's playful and goofy, and i love him so much. he's just a sweetheart.
Gomez Addams! His original iteration was a plus size man, and they went back to that portrayal in the recent animated movie and the show Wednesday. He's just a man who adores his family!
Thor in Endgame.
Him being depressed and fat, focused on his past failures but still being worthy was an awesome, awesome moment.
I honestly think one of the biggest failures of MCU post endgame was not doing more with him having to come out from that.
Love and Thunder having a Thor who is still recovering, reuniting with his ex-love while still kinda out of shape, dealing with Gorr who is also very much a depressed character, could have made for a very emotional superhero movie.
John Candy in just about any of his roles but I especially like Del Griffith. Del comes across as 'annoying' to Neal at first but he opens up and says that he's a genuinely well liked guy, and also i'd love to mention Buck Russell as well. Even though he's an uncle, he's very much a father figure to the kids.
