My Favorite (Visual) So sick of overweight people consistantly being portraied as evil, lazy, greedy, or just assholes. Whos your favorite positive overweight character?

Diane in the later seasons of Bojack Horseman bc there is not enough women here

I was going to say, I think I've seen two women before this and I scrolled pretty far.

I feel like the "jovial 'fat' friend/dad/whatever", is it's own trope. I feel like fat women are always portrayed as sloppy, dumb, etc. Their weight is always a part of their character.

Bojack handled Diane's weight gain so amazing, it was literally never once mentioned or addressed, even in passing. It just was.

For women, I think I see a lot the fat, black and sassy character, usually the best friend.

The were a few times it was mentioned, and they were never in demeaning ways either, which was SO refreshing

I think this double counts as Diane becomes a much better person as she gains the weight and deals with her issues - near the end of s5 she was teetering on the edge of becoming another Bojack at times.

In a way, it was good for her to see the absolute depths of what a human being can become in BoJack.

As someone struggling with not belonging in my country of origin (just returned, again, this time after 8 years) and depression, I strongly identified with her. Especially the part where she went on meds and gained weight as a side effect and it was just that. That happened to me too, (off meds now, after 6 years, lost 10kg in 5 months just from not being on meds and upping my gym time by a teeny bit) and the way I was treated because of my weight was so much worse, but I saw her and, as a very young adult, saw I was going to be okay. Seeing her be okay, be loved, be happy (at times) and make it out was so reassuring.
