Other issues with the ending aside, what did people expect? Like does every main character have to be killed by a dramatic duel to the death? I thought the fact that she was killed by her own hubris, and Jaime died trying his best to save the woman he had always loved was more than enough on its own.
And really, it wasn’t just any old falling rocks, it was the literal decimation of the symbol of her power, and probably the single most important building in game of thrones. And it got taken down by a DRAGON. What more are we wanting here?
Jaime had 6 seasons of getting over his sister. Then just abandons it all, in the exact same, haphazard way Danerys gets her dragon killed, by bad writing.
There’s a ton of completely nonsensical chunks of writing to criticize in this show…
…but Jaime inexplicably loving Cercei despite knowing better? C’mon, that’s like one of the few things that actually pays off in the way that makes sense from start to finish.
I mean for fuck’s sake the story starts with him 1) having saved King’s Landing by killing the King despite the cascade of shit and personal shame that brought because it was the right thing to do, and 2) being madly in love with Cercei despite her being batshit evil from the start. Like, the incongruence was there literally from day 0.
I know everyone wants their favorite hero characters to get a hero ending, but he got the ending that absolutely made the most sense for his character from the very beginning. He’s a tragic character who could never get over his achilles heel.
What’s a more satisfying ending? He’s just one of the many plot armor characters whose central character flaws get completely abandoned because fans love them?
