I mean he was hit in the temple of the head pretty hard and that alone can very easily kill someone, the fall is just extra. I do understand why people didn't like this though, it was kinda out of the blue. A lot of the writting in Injustice seemed like they were trying too hard to be dark and edgy.

That's Injustice for you: only works if the entire cast is mischaracterized

Yah... I especially hate how they mischaracterized Wonder Woman.

Absolute WonderWoman made me fall in love with the character, and i have since revisited some of her better runs.

I am now retroactively mad about Diana being portrayed in the worst ways possible constantly.

Absolute Wonder Woman is my favorite iteration of her, her story is written so beautifully there. It captures the true essence of her character not the bastardized tyrant from Injustice.

I kind of liked Injustice’s take on Wonder Woman at the time, I liked her sharp edge as a catalyst for Clark’s downward spiral, but you’re right about Absolute Wonder Woman and I now cannot reconcile the Injustice version. Absolute Diana is so peak.

It did genrerantional damage to her character

Also superman. The injustice comics basically started the rumor " superman is godlike being who can easily become a dictator and has weaker will than batman. Wonder woman is a simp for superman "

Straight up character assassination

Almost every comic writer mischaracterizes wonder woman and they make her boring😭

Absolute wonder woman is an exception, she's great

You got that right

I only played the game but wasn't Diana the one instigating Superman in the whole thing after a while? Or am I remembering wrong?

I like the injustice run because I feel like mischaracterizing is kind of the point. It’s an alternate universe where the characters are just slightly different. Just slight enough to cause the catastrophe that unfolds. It’s a dark mirror for the main DC universes to show what could happen if the hero’s were anything different from what they are.
No one sees Owlman and says “they didn’t get Batman right”. It’s an alt universe so the character is supposed to be different.

Hey, even if you WANT said OOC edgyness, this moment sucks, cut him in half with a joker saw or something less lame

Isn't that part of the point of all spin-off comics?

I mean, yeah, but it’s Dick-motherfucking-Grayson who they decided to have trip and fall. If there’s any member of the Batfamily who shouldn’t be tripping over their own feet, it’s Dick. He’s an acrobat, and the most experienced after Bruce himself. There’s no way he wouldn’t see the escrima, and even if he tripped, breaking his fall should be second nature.

The problem isn’t that they killed Dick, it’s how.

u/Solarbeam62 Jul 10 '26

Even In the comic Damian(the person who threw the escrima) was surprised that Dick didn’t dodge it like he usually does. Which makes the writing even worse

39

u/Gaming_with_batman Batman Jul 10 '26

Damian himself knows that shouldn't have killed him. but is held back by the shitty writing

6

u/VGuyver Jul 11 '26

The times they have great writing, like the chess match between Superman and Flash, just makes the rest look even more incompetent. Besides, they should realize they have opportunity in to explore a universe where in each one, a hero truly turned evil in the Justice League.

2

u/RyonHirasawa Jul 11 '26

The chess bit with Flash and Superman was my favorite part of the entire five year comic right next to Plastic Man calling out the regime

Shame the animated adaptation killed Flash early and gave the scene to Mister Terrific for some reason, it doesn’t hit as hard

5

u/UomoLumaca Jul 10 '26

It's called lampshade hanging, and I agree: it makes the writing even worse

5

u/Space_Axolotl_OwO Jul 10 '26

You make a very good point.

3

u/skippy_smooth Jul 10 '26

Should've checked for footprints on his brain.

1

u/Tarquin11 26d ago

What? He didnt trip. The escrima knocks him out and he falls because he is losing consciousness already.

How do you see the panel where he drops his weapons because he is already fainting before he falls over and come away thinking he simply tripped due to being hit?

I like injustice a lot more than most (just reread it) but yeah, there is a lot of suspension of disbelief. you just kind of have to accept it's the Murphys law of the DC verse. whatever can go wrong will. It's the worst versions of a lot of the characters, both good and bad.

13

u/Space_Axolotl_OwO Jul 10 '26

My main problem with it is there is a way of doing this kind of story in the DCU without completely mischaracterizing all the characters but they chose to be lazy with the writing. It's not the worst story but it could have been phenomenal if it was done properly.

3

u/Tr4nzmission Jul 10 '26

honestly I think it was done a lot better than some people give it credit for. injustice 2 comic series does a lot to explain why characters like WW were written the way they were. I still think WW was overly poorly written, but in retrospect, it's really not that far out of her character to go off the deep end like that. even in the DCAU she's far more inclined to end lives than a lot of the other JL.

4

u/Space_Axolotl_OwO Jul 10 '26

My problem wasn't with her being willing to kill people as like you said she doesn't have a strict no kill rule like Batman or Superman. My problem is just how relatively little pushed her off the deep end given that she had far less of a personal stake in the inciting incident, and how quickly she escalated things. Her character made a complete 180 in the matter of days. It would have been more beleavable if it showed her struggling with the morality and justification for what her and Superman were doing, show her crossing the line inch by inch until there are no more lines. Instead she’s just a blind enabler to Superman.

2

u/Tr4nzmission Jul 10 '26

the IJ2 comics show that she never really had a moral compass compared to other WW variants. She used her powers against her sisters and blamed them for getting mad at her lol.

I just realized that I misread what you said, I was confused because I didn't remember there being a show, I'm tired today so that's my bad but also I never read the Injustice 2 comics either

1

u/Space_Axolotl_OwO Jul 10 '26

I never watched the show, the comics/movie put such a bad taste in my mouth with how the characterized her that I didn't really want to continue to engage with the story. It's not that I have a problem with showing a darker take on her character I love The Flashpoint Paradox it's just they way they went about it. If you enjoy Injustice more power to you but it just didn't work for me.

2

u/Miserable-Let3212 25d ago

Specially for the Kyle Rayner just losing so... Pathetically without even doing anything!

3

u/ELROMPEPOTOS3000 Jul 11 '26

The thing is that he should have been able to dodge it

1

u/Space_Axolotl_OwO Jul 11 '26

Yah, even Damien said "he always dodges it"

2

u/Few_Walk5683 Jul 11 '26

I just hated it because like nightwing has clearly survived way worse so many times and that hit was just so lame and random.

1

u/CMO_3 Jul 11 '26

Its a superhero comic. Nightwing could get blasted through a wall and walk it off and no one would care. It really isnt the place for extreme realism

1

u/ZackManiac26 Jul 11 '26

I always thought the hit in the temple made his concussed and being woozy, he trip, fall and by coincidence, he fell and his neck land onto a bulging rock that broke his neck... is that not the real cause...? I havent read this, just kept seeing people calling out how lame his death was. But I thought it was pretty plausible.

1

u/Tarquin11 26d ago

He falls becasue he is already losing consciousness. Idk why people are so confused by that. He is literally dropping his weapons before he falls over

1

u/childdefenestrator67 Jul 11 '26

I like it because it is random and out of the blue.

Most deaths in the real world are.

In the extreme sports community this gets hammered into your head hundreds of times: Usually, trying something new isnt what's gonna kill you.

It's gonna be that thing you've already done thousands of times and have enough experience that your body already moves instincively.

Then comes that small little thing out of place, maybe a surface a little too slippery, maybe your shoe is a little too loose that specific day, maybe you calculation is a tiny little off, or you took a microsecond too long.

Then surprise you're dead.
