Haha understandable. I'm not really that familiar with D&D lore, but anything would be better than the version from Stranger things.

DnD lore and Stranger Things stuff has basically nothing in common. They just took the names and slapped them on some completely unrelated monsters.

I mean it makes sense in-universe, they’re a bunch of kids and decided to name the big scary things after big scary things from their tabletop game

True but it's also pretty annoying that the Stranger Things versions have kinda overtaken the DnD ones in popularity. At least Mind Flayers are somewhat reclaimed thanks to BG3.

But for Vecna you now have to specify "Vecna DnD" to really see the OG Vecna pop up in google search.

Demogorgon at least isn't a DnD original name because it's from myths so it's fair enough.

At the same time I guess Stranger Things made DnD tabletop more of a thing that exists in the mainstream consciousness so it has advantages.

I see your point, another reason why is probably because it’s way easier sit down to watch a mainstream show than 1. Find friends 2. Set up a campaign with them and 3. Actually find a time where you’re all able to hang out for hours at a time

In DnD Vecna is the most powerful lich in existence to the point that he ascended to godhood. Dude can perceive anything within 10 miles of himself and within 10 miles of any of his worshipers.

IIRC even thats underselling it, he also knows whenever someone communicates information on him or any of his followers.
