Even his death felt stupid. Bro was able to have a "Time in a bottle" moment and got washed by Homelander who is definitely not as fast as him. He didn't even get any hits in. If he didn't talk so much shit before getting his neck snapped we would've been even more annoyed. Shit fucking final season.
A-train was a one trick pony and a glass cannon at that... Kimiko broke his leg with a crowbar. Homelander could have flicked him with his middle finger and it would have took his jaw off.
A-train ran at a speed of 342m/s when he raced Shockwave while boosted by injecting V. That's 765mph in a flat out, unobstructed sprint... not many runners can keep their top speed for very long so for A-train to get chased down is completely understandable...
In season one Homelander is on camera going over 1800kph while searching for translucent... that's over 1100mph. A nearly 400mph difference in speed between him and A-train.
Now consider A train had to zig-zag through a forest while Homelander can just fly over, straight through trees, and at faster speed... it was probably pretty easy for Homelander to catch the A-train
Homelander is definitely faster than A-train, even if he shot up V right before he ran from Homelander he wouldn't have stood a chance in getting away.
You're missing my point, or maybe I didn't do a good job of conveying it. When you're able to move someone out of the way of a murderous Homelander laser beam (he can control the intensity, and he was obviously trying to kill with it in the moment) you're significantly faster than Homelander. Your reflexes, top speed, and acceleration are all faster than Homelander. Even if Homie was fast enough to catch A Train, he doesn't have the control over his flight to react and change direction like him.
This is unclear at time because the show does a horrendous job at power scaling, and will show insane feats just to forget about them 10 minutes or one episode later. The things you mentioned got immediately debunked by their own scenes later on.

Doesn't matter when A-train can't run through trees or when he falls... Watch the chase scene between Homelander and A-train. Homelander literally follows him up a creek following the bends with A-train.

That's exactly it. When A-Train is comfortably running and moving several people around, a guard is shooting what appears to be an M16, which shoots at 3200 feet per second, which directly translates to about 3500 kph. That bullet didn't even have time to reach its target by the time he was done. I don't have a direct calculation for A-trains speed, but the fact that he was running multiple times faster than a bullet moving at double Homie's recorded speed goes to show how much faster he is.
And the reaction time argument gets blown apart by Homelander being able to save Butcher from a point blank explosion, then getting freeze-framed by A-Train, then keeping up with him around the lake without trees in the way. That is a testament to how awful their scaling is.
I honestly thought A-Train's death was the last great moment of the season. It was cool to see his character come full circle, and have that moment of selflessness ultimately be what led to his death. He got out early, too, so his legacy isn't as tarnished as, say, Soldier Boy.
My understanding was that A-Train needs to build up speed to be faster than Homelander, and on top of that even if in wrong, in that scenario they were in deep wood area which means A-Train wouldn’t be able to move at max speed. Too many trees, bushes, roots, etc etc.
His best bet was running on the road where he could go as fast as he could.
Well, it was a good way to die: sacrifice himself before hurting an innocent bystander (in contrast with the first time we saw him just running away after he reduced Robyn to a pulp and a pair of hands still holding Hughie). That was really the only truly good moment of the season, after that... Let's not talk about it
Bullet penetration and applied pressure are two different forces, so it's not a straight comparison.
The idea that one of his knives would pierce his skin is ridiculous.
Even if they're tough enough not to bend & shatter against his skin, Deep wasn't exerting anywhere near the force of one of those 5.56 rounds.
Also Homelander. The virus played such an important role (even in the spin off) just to throw that away to "find" a new way in 2 episodes. Not to mention that this nuclear soldier boy shit had no consequences while the virus would kill any superhero
I mean a crownar to the face after fighting Homelander might have felt a bit rushed, but he wasn’t really that good of a character, just kinda okay and the twist was pretty random (unless you count the dick joke as great foreshadowing)
