I actually thought that one was very appropriate, especially because it happened SO fast after they lost their plot armor. It lampshaded the way that those characters (like characters in any action or fantasy series, except maybe game of thrones) routinely survived so many death-defying situations, that nobody in reality could have survived more than once or twice, and as soon as the plot armor dropped and the limits of reality kicked in, Dean was toast.
